Grey Day
Cherri Cola May 2014
It's a wet gray cloudy traveling day
These are the days that I fear,
these are the days that I live for.
Because the fear can't last, the planes
don't crash, & the clouds are pure up top.

It's a wet gray cloudy traveling day.
These are the days that I pray.
It's the neatest writing I've ever done,
it's the neatest end that we've come from.
And the skies keep fissuring.

The world keeps turning, skies
don't keep on burning, 'cept at the 838 mile-per-hour
my mind goes to freeze the sun in my eyes.
It blinds.

It's a wet gray cloudy traveling day.
These are the days that I pray.
It's the neatest writing I've ever done,
it's the neatest end that we've come from.
And the skies keep feeling fractal.

These are the days that I pray.
When the streetlights don't go out &
the skies change gray, I beg.
Because weather like this is for change.
When rain & sky never have a say
everything is here on the ground, I say!

It's a wet gray cloudy traveling day.
These are the days that I pray.
It's the neatest writing I've ever done,
it's the neatest end that we've come from.
And the skies keep flashing flat.

It's the neatest writing I've ever done.
It's the neatest end that we've come from.
The light stays simple, the lives end late,
but the clouds don't have a say.
Because they're the days I fear to move
& do & be. Be neat.

It's a wet gray cloudy traveling day.
These are the days that I pray.
It's the neatest writing I've ever done,
it's the neatest end that we've come from.
And the skies keep feeling frail.

It's a wet gray cloudy traveling day.
These are the days that I pray.
It's the neatest writing I've ever done,
it's the neatest end that we've come from.

But the skies keep turning.
But the skies keep turning.

I want to throw away these woes
these words of yours and mine.

You give them weight,
they'll weigh us down
like water in my lungs.

Don't drown me with what I don't believe.
I can't believe in it
I'll be pulled down too.

Kick up!
Kick up to the surface!
Toss away the chains,
we're free.

Just you and me,
no weights
no woes
not a single no.

Nods in our direction,
now is the time to go.
And breath with me.

Our words go hand in hand,
eclipses in between our lungs.
The songs go in and 'round to the same tune sung in day and night.
But I won't let us drown.

Take Backs
Cherri Cola Mar 2014
these streets weren't yours last night
and even though you're fighting the good fight
feels like it's stacked against you.
even your head beats to their drums
and not your heart
turn your bones to ice in a heat wave
melt away from the press of the crowd
and figure yourself out backwards

this was your fight, your life
your night to lay awake and unmake you you are
now hey hey wake up, fight your fight all through the night
riots till our lives turn out all right
starting tonight
this was your fight, it's our fight our night our fight tonight

don't you give up now
even sunlight hits the alleyways
just the same it hits the highway exit you need
it's a life, just take it
no questions and no pain
put feet before each other
and walk away from pain
figure yourself out from the inside

this was your fight, your life
your night to lay awake and unmake you you are
now hey hey wake up, fight your fight all through the night
riots till our lives turn out all right
starting tonight
this was your fight, it's our fight our night our fight tonight

if you cant make it tonight
still fighting for good steps one at a time
we'll keep on till dawn
you can take up a banner and light
the streets are new awash with light
and they belong to us
and we wont give them back
(keep that bit down, though!)

this was your fight, your life
your night to lay awake and unmake you you are
now hey hey wake up, fight your fight all through the night
riots till our lives turn out all right
starting tonight
this was your fight, it's our fight our night our fight tonight
"if all we see is on the outside, then you're faking it. making it, look too easy. it's the journey but nobody sees that. celebrate it! scream it to the streets tonight. this was your fight. you're on their streets on their own two feet today! and you're making it. these screams aren't faking it tonight. "
Them's the rough draft.

High School Poet's Eulogy
Cherri Cola Apr 2014
oh undertaker
a high school poet died today
and they say

popularity is just relatability
see them in that mirror watching you
but check your compacts at the door
(look them in the eye)

they might **** you tonight
oh undertaker
how did they die last night?
forced the knife of lips
and lies into their minds
hit by a train full speed before the station lights
could see them in the way

we hate what we see
staring back, fade to black
in this highschool drama scene
who the **** are you?
can't be me
because i know myself, and this
dyed hair, straight kicks, concert tix
i see. that kid just aint all me

it might **** me tonight
oh undertaker
how do they die alone at night?
forcing the knife of lips
and lies into their minds
hit by a train full speed before the station lights
could see them in the way

give me my pen it's stronger
than the wings of that waterproof eyeliner
you cried off in the bathroom stall
last tuesday
oh undertaker, you
drew em back, of course
sharper than a sword but twice as brittle
because you hate the way they frame
her eyes, and your lies too

they might **** you tonight
oh undertaker
how did you die last night?
forced the knife of lips
and lies into their frozen faces
crushed by a train full speed before the station lights
could see them in the way

tonight, check you faces at the door
come in clear
and dont check your face to see
who's looking at you
we all see the same screen
our pores in bass-relief
tombstone grief

atomic nuclear power plant of life and joy and woe
here to the bitter, buried end, bleeding in the snow
the smallest parts have the biggest burn
the biggest thing we build is made of parts of us, all brighter than the gold

it's the little things that keep us jumping on
turning faces into pictures
twisting cries away from us
ascending friction goverened lives
i say we are unbroken, that we can't be broken
bonded here for life

plated wonderous processes, slides that aren't all clear
and if you're standing there alone, know that you wont be there for long

it's the little things that keep us jumping on
it's the little things that keep us jumping on

everything starts small and sparkling
building things with no charge
and no weight inherent
add a dose of positive self-negitivity
and boom.
go out and create chains to fallicate your flaws
i never knew you wanted me there too
well here i go with

it's the little things that keep us jumping on
turning faces into pictures
twisting cries away from us
ascending friction goverened lives
i say we are unbroken, that we can't be broken

unbroken and unbreakable
made all out of stars
i am the god particle, about to go nuclear

Share your life and fall away
infect the world you left behind
while we fall apart moving on
away, again to Broadway sound
a turn you'll never take
although the concert halls have your dollars now.
When oh when did we start going down?

Our vices, come to overspent life
while the world keeps rolling, rolling on
without you, without you while our sins keep
finding sinners to latch onto once again.

When oh when did I start writing in "I live for you"
and not "I love you"? It's not a healthy mistake,
though it's one I wont stop making.
Our slippery *****, held in high esteem
like true love
even though they aren't the same.

Our vices, come to overspent life
while the world keeps rolling, rolling on
without you, without you while our sins keep
finding sinners to latch onto once again.

You did just the same
didn't see the stars falling to stand next to you.
can we really save another person?
Or do I think that life's just passing
while we're all just standing by
waiting for feelings to reboot?
I liked it.

Our vices, come to overspent life
while the world keeps rolling, rolling on
without you, without you while our sins keep
finding sinners to latch onto once again.

Why not float away again, never return the same
infect the world you left behind?
When you're gone you don't get a single word.
We're done with you,
We're dont without you
and you're done without your mind
the ones you left behind.

Our vices, come to overspent life
while the world keeps rolling, rolling on
without you, without you while our sins keep
finding sinners to latch onto once again.

Strange Medicine
Cherri Cola Jul 2014
there are pieces of me hidden in the walls that you will never forget
but that's not your occupation now
chasing down younger stars by the seas
if you were a good host you would've at least made toast
but you never did find the right combination of pills and tries to be perfect
so we all go hungry

rust-red shoulders, shark-flesh skin
in debtors prison before the week begins
you've been dying since the day divorce first came around
hollowed out syncopated, broken and unborn
I'm radioactive and I'm in love
I'm ready to go but we can't go slow

has anybody seen the gasman goin' round?
this is the day and the glory
fuel set to fire
fractals in the walls all going down
the spaces that we share were my all-time favorite hiding places
but you knew them all too well
now we're planetary alignments on rusty shocks
but you're pluto a voyager away

gold-veined limbs smashing clocks into scattered ticking parts
priceless gems from eras never passed
it's the strangest medicine we've tasted
the only one we need
is this fantasy
I learned nothing about dying this year in science
stranger medicine I haven't learned to make

If everything is not
and no
and don't you go,
sing out your singular heart all alone
and in your basement
and in my car outside the store to the clap
and my start
and to Miss Mary Mack,
went to the track to sing it out
and loud
and proud, when the track goes black don't take it back
realize what you're really never gonna reach
and more
and will never want to be then
let it go outside when it snows
and bury it deep in the sea
or in a creak below the stairs
where the "don't you" goes
because what you aren't to me
might be what I'll never be.
Even out in the deep deep dark of a blackedout heartbeat
rat-a-tat tapping in a car next to you
or me
but I'm not here
and saying no
and don't you go somewhere
at this point in time I could apologize, my moats are filled with tacks
to stop you in your tracks
and just so you own't go back out
bring back my pack
all dressed in gold and black
so we might hold you close
at the end of one thing
and the beginning of a new thing, a possibly cruel thing
and I know you wont say you don't do this to me
and leave the closest car seat cold
but if you do
and everything for me is no
and no
and don't you go then nothing for you
will be
to do
and go
and won't be missed
I'll clap to see you go out by the tracks, all dressed in black
singing Miss Mark Mack to myself out in the black backseat of my car
outloud.

Those Wings, That Love
Cherri Cola Apr 2014
you say you have a "thing for wings"
do you think of yours, generous angel?
I think you must be, lights shines in you so bright
Unimaginable, undefined supercluster of you
your love spirals out like glowing nebulas,
building mass of starstorm, dustcloud life
you are the same makeup as a star
and I see you shine so bright.
I cannot imagine a universe without such beauty as to fly
with wings as bright and full of life as our milkyway
and with a universe so inclined to beauty and wonder
it is no wonder you exist
you had to, somewhere, somewhen stars shine in city skies
not willing to be dimmed, only to add more light.
to yours and theirs, when my science can only
understand you on a smaller scale.
I'd have to create more to understand you,
but I think I'll be okay in awe alone
because you are a wonder, and I'd just like to watch your rays
does astrophysics work with Newton if you scale it down to mere rubber ***** in a pool?

recalibrate your grip
Cherri Cola Mar 2014
if it started in the basement where do we end up?

when my lips press up questions with my hands far down below
what do I want from you?
new love got noticed today

re-calibrate and judge again
is there anything we've fought for?
the text behind my fingers might be lying but my lips for sure are not.
holding hands doesn't count when your mouth is facing the other way

back at home shallow hands we've hung up at the door
and duct-taped truth gagged in the den
if it's in the open, it shouldn't have to be said
but you just could be blind? or is your mouth not quite on straight?
like mine.

re-calibrate and judge again
is there anything we've fought for?
the text behind my fingers might be lying but my lips for sure are not.
holding hands doesn't count when your mouth is facing the other way

please try again with this vending machine of love
I wont take your crumpled-for-granted dollar no more
take me out to city streets
or i'll just go alone
and perhaps text you when i'm home

re-calibrate and judge again
is there anything we've fought for?
the text behind my fingers might be lying but my lips for sure are not.
holding hands doesn't count when your mouth is facing the other way

reading lines from a script in goodnights and hello's and daring daring not to say
when I didn't always mean it
it goes unspoken face to face
what do you hear between us?
I think I'm going deaf

re-calibrate and judge again
is there anything we've fought for?
re-calibrate and judge again
is there anything we've fought for?

holding hands doesn't count when my mouth is facing the other way pressed against somebody else's.
I hope you notice before I have to say.

Something Anyone Might Do
Cherri Cola Jun 2014
If nobody means it
it's poison on your tongue
right when I want you
dead.
This ain't the real world
your friends aren't two-fold
& you couldn't keep away from
this.

All you only are the words your bias
can propel. And tell your crowd
I hope they lie in wait & in service to you.
Don't betray yourself and tell
the truth.
If and says it it wouldn't be the same,
but here it's you. And everybody
at this party you weren't invited to
knows that you can't quite be trusted
at all.

Because you'll catch yourself in lies
& smiles you're faking because the poison
you are spreading are only touching you
Medusa. We won't look you in the
eyes.

Lies & goodbyes are so in style.
It's a poisoned life
to be lead & leading you.
It's something anyone might do
but every time,
it's you.

some days the sun shines
some days the sky pours out on us
and before that all the dawn's good light goes
why bother asking you why
all you know is that it ought to be blue
but buildings always turn to gray up high
so how wrong can you be?

don't lie to me
don't come crying to me about all of your mistakes
i'm done with your problems
done being your solution, sounding board for bigger better things
i'm done with this
done with all of your ****
done being what you have to kick around

this building aint well structured
and we're the ivy falling off the sides
to find a better place for all our roots and shoots up in sidewalks are better
your AC was so dry
your humors outdated
you're problems all too trite
why the hell would i put up with that?

don't lie to me
don't come crying to me about all of your mistakes
i'm done with your problems
done being your solution, sounding board for bigger better things
i'm done with this
done with all of your ****
done being what you have to kick around

if it rains it pours with you
cant see the sunset for the clouds
cant be all that i supported
i'll be done with you and all your failings too
done with all your mistakes and tears
goodnight
goodbye
i'm done being your own **** up
don't you dare lie to me
i'm done with your problems
done being your solution, sounding board for bigger better things
done being what you have to kick around
done being what you have to kick around.
"it was not a well-structured form and we felt like climbing ivy falling off the sides." was the first line I came up with, the thesis if you will.

I'm sleeping in your hoodie because I don't want you to be mad at me, even though I understand why you are. And I'm running to my words, who've failed me just this once, to try and apologize to you. I'm very small tonight, swimming in the sweatshirt sea of you while fearing that I've popped our balloon and no amount of hot air apologizes will lift it off the ground. Would you forgive a rightly aimed shell of anger when you know I didn't understand even if you don't because I know the shock of pain takes so long to tear down. If the day is set to be gray, does the moon warn the sun to put on a sweatshirt, direct rain down a face?

so you don't fall anymore for me
(unless you want to?)
And mute my words
change your name in my phone
so I can't find you anymore
and then his name, the right focus
will be back at the top of the list
where you tell me it should be.
It's unspoken that it's not yours

Absolution
Cherri Cola Mar 2014
With you I'm learning what falling in love feels like because I'm in love with you.

And I asked you to give me a month,
you would have waited years.
And you asked me to take
my cues from you,
and really do this right.

So I hope these notes are all right because with you
I think I know what falling in love feels like and it doesnt feel like anything before

I hope the world turns slowly,
because I'm falling fast and I
want to cherish this,
this working thing we have,
and only complicated
by those who've never been here.

But now I know what falling in love feels like.

You told me I could be run off by you,
but all roads lead to you
my Rome, my Romeo.
Our points are set,
our hearts are buried deep and even
and with you in front of me
I can't miss a single moment
falling into you.
I want to share everything with you,
and for once, I'm not at all scared to
because I want you
to fall in love with every piece of me,
just like I am with every slice of you.

So I hope these notes are all right because with you
I think I know what falling in love feels like and it doesnt feel like anything before

I hope the world turns slowly,
because I'm falling fast and I
want to cherish this,
this working thing we have,
and only complicated
by those who've never been here.

Lying on your bed,
lying on my bed,
wherever we are doesn't matter.
I can always find you on the rink
and the river, in the hall
and from anywhere with cell service
if I'm gonna be as honest as my heart is telling me I love you.
Told this one I'd fix it up.

I wish I had a place.
I wish I had my own place
to be.
and be with and whom i please
but I do not
and must resign myself to measured hair and  measured time with those who ought to stay

their leisure I cannot welcome in this place I cannot stay
and I fear that this is a prison wall.
built to be alone.

I see them turn away.
I'm wont to walk my yard alone.
I'm wont to keep my space.
but turn and turn again i find these hoops I know I've lead astray.

these verses fabled mine and yours.
but the walls I do not know
and cannot entrust with the heart of mine.
and surely never yours.

so turn away I'll take my stride.
alone along my yard.
because the places I called home.
contain me in their lines.

now call it house and wait for home
I place I want to stay
this isn't one I ought've known
a place I cannot stay.
I'm sorry.
