Stretched across my bed
Rumpling the covers up
In hopes of making
Myself believe that someone
Had tangled them with me once
Trying my hand at writing a tanka

Writers block
A binding curse
The worst agony
A poet feels
As they take a seat
To make something new

But the ideas aren't new
No, there's a block
And you melt in your seat
The return of the curse
The return of the agony
They know how it feels

And it feels like agony
But that isn't new
How everyone feels
Surmounting the block
Defeating the curse
Fighting in your seat

And in your seat
Enduring the agony
Write, rewrite, read, curse
And repeat, nothing new
Just the block
That everyone feels

And everyone feels
Frustration's seat
Seat on the block
The block of agony
The block of un-new
The block, the curse

Curse...curse
A curse everyone feels...
A curse that's not new...
A curse in your seat...
A curse that's agony...
A curse...writer's block!

That's it!
Simply written
When nothing is!
I really wanted to get a good sestina down. I wrestled with this form of poetry...it's a real challenge to write for me. It needs help!!!

Dear Friend,

I don't want to be a bother
And,
Not to break any eggshells,
But the reason for my annoying habit
Of saying
“I love you”
Constantly
Is because that is what I do
When my heart is breaking.

When I am called
Fat
Stupid
Ugly
etc.
I say
“I love you”
Because it’s the only way I can
Cope

I do this because
If I show it hurts
I’ll remember how much I wish
I had better friends

But if you don't like it
I'll try to change

Sorry for bothering you then,
Cecilia
Just edited...smoother. Cattier too...well, truth is mean.

the metallic crash
of cymbals
in the summer
august afternoons
working together
to make this
something
important

the deep, low rumble
of bass drums
in the band room
after school practice
trying to get our
bass drum splits
sound like
perfection

the vibrant, sharp ring
of tenors
along the track
marching ceaselessly
uniformity
is what we
came here
to master

the staccato snap
of snare drums
in the commons
the perfect ******
in the perfect roll
found nestled
within
the next try

the commanding yell
of major
tonight is it
we have been working
for weeks on end now
to make this
the best
it can be

one...
two...
dut, dut, dut, dut

our arms are screaming
after this
but this was
the best performance
we have ever done
so we cried
as we
were victors
Inspired by band camp and drum line season 2010...critique!

i bumped into you
at the supermarket
i told you
i ran out of food
you asked
what i was buying
i said
pudding and ramen
you said
i have a healthy diet
i told you
it encompassed all the major food groups
you asked
what the major food groups were
i said
pudding and ramen
you laughed
i laughed
and we tripped
into a kiss

remind me to go
to the supermarket
after you get settled in
at my aprtment
or is it
our apartment?
This is a little more prose than poem, but I would definetly like some critique!

The grey film of rain
Makes it hard to breathe
The watter seems wetter
And colder
And harsher
Than usual
It sinks into my bones
And makes then hurt
Running down the hill
Trying to make it on time
Feet slipping in the
Barely covered mud

Stumbling in
Taking refuge
I'm shivering
I've never felt
More weak
More helpless
More wet
And how appropriate
That you should arrive
You,
The only one
That can make me feel any
More weak
More helpless
And,
of course,
More wet
Happened today, all true. Including the last line...thought it sounded a little clever. Please critique! Please!!!

Sometimes in the dark of night
All you need's
Someone
To turn on the light
And sometimes when it's too **** cold
All you need's
Someone
To make you feel like gold

Yeah sometimes
Life's like hell, just colder
Everyday,
I'm gettin' older
But sometimes
All you need's
Someone
To show you
That's life
Yeah, that's life
Oh, well

Sometimes in the light of day
All you need's
Someone
To say, hey, life's okay
And sometimes when you're feelin' good
All you need's
Someone
To love ya like they should

Yeah sometimes
Life's worth livin' for
Everyday,
I get some more
And sometimes
All you need's
Someone
To show you
That's life
Yeah, that's life
Oh well

Oh, it ain't all bad
But it ain't all great
But what's the fun in too much fun
Or not enough
And even though this song I'm singin'
Ain't too long and I'm just wingin'
It isn't the end of your world

Yeah sometimes
Life's like hell, just colder
Everyday,
I'm gettin' older
But sometimes
All you need's
Someone
To show you
That's life
Yeah, that's life
Oh, well

Yeah sometimes
Life's worth livin' for
Everyday,
I get some more
And sometimes
All you need's
Someone
To show you
That's life
Yeah, that's life
Oh well

Oh well
Oh-Oh well
This is kind of a song actually...I have a melody to it and all. It's better than I expected it to be, I must say.

I've been searching
For the poem
To show you that I want you
To show that
I want our
Accidental bumps
To be purposeful
Somethings

I've been searching
For the poem
To show you that I need you
To show that
I get scared
When I don't see you
Wave and smile
Every day

I've been searching
For the poem
To show you that I love you
To show that
I love the face
You make when you laugh
And try desperately
To get you to make it more

Ironic, isn't it?

For so long
I've been searching
For the one
To make me feel this way
And now all I need

Is to find the words

To make you

Mine
Newly edited and made public to get more exposure, but it needs critique!

Wouldst thou take my hand? Or wouldst thou leave it?
Wouldst thou ever see, thou art mine love dear.
But dost thou show thine heart? Nay, thine just sit!
Dost thou know mine intentions? Dost thou hear?

Though lady I am, lady I will be,
Thine silence has close to have me go mad.
I wish to simply tell you truth, you see
Explain the feeling for so long I've had

I am not sure of Man, I'm sure of me
But that dost not mean man cannot be seen
For Man is not the truth, but man art thee
And man thou art that I do dream unclean

And though I dare not say that I'm in love
Your smile makes my heart flutter like a dove
Trying out a sonnet, but I think I laid on the "thou" and "thine" a little thick...

You are why I take
Every waking hour and
Make something of it

You are why I am
The first one in the door and
The last one to leave

You are why I care
About everything I do
I need you so much
Wanted to try writing a haiku today

— The End —
