Congratulations!
Cathy B May 2012
You've worked so hard
And now the moment's come!

You graduated college,
And then you moved back home.

But now you've been contacted
And will have a job!

I know you'll do great
And I'm beyond excited for you!

I know it's kinda selfish,
But I'm glad you're kinda close.

You know I'll come visit
To get my snuggle dose.

I'll see you lots and know
Our relationship will be better.

We'll be close enough to drive
Instead of writing a letter.

I'll still send texts and emails
As to not invade your space.

I'm so proud and in love with you
Can't wait to see this new place!!!
The love of my life just got a job!!!! He sent out 200 applications and only had 3 interviews. I'm really proud of him and am so excited for his new adventure to start!

People Change
Cathy B May 2012
I am excited for your adventures,
But I fear I'm more excited
Than you are anymore.

We used to have fun,
Laughing and being silly,
Now it's hard to send a text
Without asking, "Really?!"

I want to knock some sense into your head,
I want you to know he isn't that great,
That you act differently now
And all because of some stupid date.

You may think I'm just jealous
But there is no reason to be,
I can be myself around my beau,
You won't and everyone else can see.

We played TMNT in college,
Our imaginations took control,
And now they can't because we're older.
Our lives now seem pretty dull.

I'll explain further,
If that's what you want.
Remember making ballon animals
instead of reading Kant?

Or maybe you'll remember
Our crazy delofting crew.
We tore down beds
For people we barely knew.

We used to do things on a whim,
But had responsibilities too,
You used to care abou your grades,
Now I question if you do.

We both survived college
And you had an awesome G.P.A.
Then he came along and well,
you ****** it all away.

Now it's all about drinking
And trying to be that girl.
We used to make fun of them,
The ones who had to wear pearls.

Now if you want to go this route,
Let me buy you some Uggs and a North Face.
Because no friend of mine would change
for a guy or to fit into a new place.

Don't get me wrong,
I want you to do well.
I just hope you don't settle for him
Because you aren't yourself.

He's a nice guy and I can tell he cares,
But until my friend's personality can return,
I won't like you two as a couple,
And I pray you'll eventually learn.

Thoughts Escaping
Cathy B Dec 2010
I try to write a story just for you,
but every time, my mind goes blank…
Cathy B Dec 2010
Everyone has their moments,
We all can be mean.

I’d rather have a friend tell me
that she can be a *****
than not admit it.
That shows she knows of her humanity.

I’d rather date a guy who can be a ****.
If he thinks he’s nice all the time,
His mean streaks will seem worse
Than if he acknowledges his flaws.

You say you don’t want to marry a *****,
but you really need to understand,
that without the rough moments
it’s hard to appreciate the good ones.

When you love someone,
you’ll understand;
Perfection does sound nice,
but we fall in love with others’ flaws.

Everyone has their moments,
We all can be mean.

Why do we fight it?
We are told to embrace it,
And let our hearts just win.
Instead we won’t listen,
We keep trying to be friends,
But no one believes that’s all we are.
Sometimes I wonder why
we don’t just give it a try.
But sometimes I’m glad we don’t.
Our relationship is more complex
Than it really has to be,
but neither of us will give in.
Instead we keep on fighting
how we feel about each other,
We need to just pick one way or another.

Do the Dew
Cathy B Nov 2010
Beautiful Mountain Dew,
You are faithful and true.
When I need caffeine
I just reach for the green.
Do you like Mountain Dew, too?

Death To Midterms
Cathy B Nov 2010
Taking tests and exams is fun,
I'd rather just be done.
With midterm break finally here,
finish class, have a beer.
Cathy B Nov 2010
You call me cute as if it’s a good thing,
but I see it as saying I need to be taken care of.
I don’t need your help and if you try
to get too close, away you will be shoved.

My friends say you’d like me to be girly,
and that would be accomplished if I shower.
They tell me to let you in and let you help,
But why now? I’ve done so much by my own power.

I’m trying to let you take care of me,
and I can tell I’m getting attached,
but I’m struggling to let my guard down,
because if I do, my heart will be snatched.

I’m trying to focus on my schoolwork
instead of texting you all day,
but Patient Management and Anatomy
don’t capture my attention the same way.

I hear from you periodically,
and each time I put on a stupid smile.
I’m then reminded I’m acting silly
and resume my unhygienic style.

When I let go of my concerns
and feel like giving you my all,
I have some reservations because, if I do,
this won’t be an easy fall.

I’m not saying that you’ll cause me great devastation,
yes, some hurt and pain I will feel,
but if you think I’ll crumble like other girls,
All I can say is, “come on, get real!”

Facing Fears
Cathy B Nov 2010
I’m not afraid of falling down,
I find it quite a thrill.

I’m not afraid of bugs or worms,
Let them wander at will.

I’m not afraid of tight spaces,
Fill the room with people.

I’m not afraid of loud thunder,
Ring like bells in steeples.

I’m not afraid of larger dogs,
They’re all just really sweet.

I’m not afraid of nasty germs,
My room is never neat.

I’m not afraid to fly in planes,
It’s quicker than a drive.

I’m not afraid of being stung,
Let bees just work the hive.

I’m not afraid of all 13s,
It’s just the next in line.

I’m not afraid of failing tests,
Just study and do fine.

I’m not afraid to make mistakes,
I wrote this poem in pen.

I’m not afraid of morbid deaths,
It happens to all men.

It freaks me out you talk a lot,
but more when you shut up.

I’m scared of your cynical views,
but know you’ll laugh again.

I’m terrified to tell you that
I want you as a friend.
