Home part 2 (unfinished)
Carley Wilkerso Nov 2019
At 15 I was wandering, drifting from place to place, moving in and being evicted. Never the fault of the landlord, always the tenant.

I wish that you knew I still reach out for you
But you’re not here
Not even in spirit
I wish that you knew how much I love you
But you don’t want to hear it
I wish that you knew I can’t sleep alone
But you’re my home
Now I’m nowhere near it

Home part 1
Carley Wilkerso Jan 2019
When I was 15 I purchased a home
I wasn’t in the market and the value was unknown
The floor plan was cramped, the walls painted dark, the greenery overgrown
The walls built up cast shadows into dim corners

For three years I worked
Brightening color schemes, opening curtains, letting some light in,
Increasing the sale value, for someone to buy it

After all this work I finally decided
I would no longer remodel myself for someone else to reside in,
I would only create a home to live my life in
I continuously work on building my home to match my needs,
I will not care if the neighbors hate my landscaping,
I opened my floor plan by tearing down walls
I made do with my home, despite it was small
When I am in my small home, completely rebuilt, I live in a mansion

When you talk about leaving
I can't help my breathing
My throat's constricting
My heart's rapid beating
All these things you're not seeing
Because you'd never believe me

I'm lying in bed while you're miles away,
I'm typing this out to beg you to stay,
I'm holding you back, but I don't know how to say,
I love you in every possible way

We’re making life decisions
At only seventeen
But I’m stuck here wishing
You would choose to stay with me

Im younger than I’ll ever be
And older than I’ve been
But what you don’t see
Is I am afraid to lead
Unless I drag you by the hand
My lips don’t know the words to speak
Unless you’re the one listening to me

While You're Away
Carley Wilkerso Jan 2018
If love fades
Or monotony grows tiring
If "I love you" feels like lying
If you can't stay
Know that while you're away
I may fill my emptiness
Kissing bottles
But while we're apart
You'll still hold my heart

Some say to heal you just write what hurts
But I still feel you taking over my words
Your hands still stinging, leaving me red
Though it's been two years
You tugging my shirt over my head
Still a lingering fear
I need to escape you
But I'm stuck here

One day he'll look at you
The same way he has for months
You'll only see a shell
Of the lover he was once
He was slowly fading
You guess you never noticed
So you sit here waiting
As he takes your love and throws it

Time
Carley Wilkerso Jun 2017
The timing is wrong,
You'll be gone for so long
Everyone is saying
You just have to be strong
Maybe when you're back
As if time will not move
And there's nothing to lose
As if you are not leaving
Or this love isn't true

Kind
Carley Wilkerso Jun 2017
You move your hands
Lightly down my sides
As your hands meet my hips
Memories flash of his
I'm sorry I flinch
Every time we fight
But everyone's hands
Haven't always been kind

The words I scribble
More eloquent than I speak
I stumble and choke
Get red in the cheeks
Forget what I said
And stare at my feet
My words sound strange
My phrases are choppy
My words lose their meaning
My verbiage is sloppy
Spaces are pauses
In the words I spoke
With tears in my eyes
And a lump in my throat

Nicotine
Carley Wilkerso Jun 2017
You're my caffeine, nicotine
See you in my day dreams
Long nights, no sleep
My heart is yours to keep
You're my caffeine, nicotine
Wake me from this bad dream
Needed you to breathe
Now I want some peace

Footsteps

Footsteps are warnings
They fade and won't last
Footsteps are haunting
The soundtrack to my past

I've lost so many battles
On my thighs and on my arms
See the tears in my eyes
Overwhelming scars

Im fighting many battles
It has now been 30 days
I'm repairing and rebuilding
I've thrown out my blades

I might've won some battles
But this war may never end
When you get defeated
You stand back up again

Love is...

Love is...
healing and heartbreak
rebuilding and earthquakes
stitches and a scalpel
sin and a chapel
antidote and poison

The Ocean
Carley Wilkerso May 2017
My bones ache for the ocean
A place I've never known
Maybe when I get there
I'll finally feel at home

I'm standing in the ocean
An aching in my bones
Maybe when I get back
I'll finally feel at home

I love your eyes

I love your lies
Mixed in with the truth
Let me walk through
How I fell in love with you

I've changed
Carley Wilkerso May 2017
I made my bed for the first time in weeks
I've changed and now
I'm ready to get some sleep
I've changed everything
My hair, my clothes, my bedding
My thoughts, dreams, mentality
I'm changing

I Believed You Loved Me
Carley Wilkerso May 2017
I believed you loved me
But that you'd never say
I let you be my everything
Consume my day-to-day
I believed you loved me
Now I know you'd never stay
You were planning all along
To break my heart this way

Words
Carley Wilkerso May 2017
All of the words can't portray with the same meaning
Your arms hold me and your legs carry you here
But the words to describe them are always unclear
English cannot explain the thoughts
Running through my mind
Maybe I'll find them
Maybe in time

That Type of Love
Carley Wilkerso May 2017
The type of love I want to give
Is hard within our years
I want to love with meaning,
Even if there's tears
I want a love without leaving
I want to make it clear
For as long as you'll accept it,
My love is always here
