I can't see through you
I can't see around you
I can't see without you
Help I am lost
I'm trapped by your laughter
By my need to create it
I'm afraid of the silence
So I let my rumination fog the glass
All I want is clarity
But maybe I'm too transparent

Unforgotten
Brittany Danzig Dec 2013
I never understood why your lips were confined,
To the uninviting flatness of a line.
Or why your presence was lost,
In mundane routine and apathy.
I thought maybe you didn't enjoy my company.
I didn't know if your smiles and laughs were real;
They seemed so ephemeral,
Like stifled strikes of resistance ,
Against your solemness.

When I began to burden the weight of knowledge,
I finally understood the safety of the guaranteed.
When they dismantled your family,
And starved you to emaciation,
You forgot what faith was.
You forgot what love was.
And you forgot the impact you could have on others.
But you would never forget what work was.
Your perseverance accounts for my existence.
For that you are unforgettable.

Toxic
Brittany Danzig Apr 2013
You poisoned my mind,
Left my innocence behind,
I can't get you out of my head
The things you never said,
The way you assumed all,
You let me fall,
Pretended to catch me,
With no integrity.

She
Brittany Danzig Jan 2013
She
She sits inside a class and listens with respect;
She sprinkles in some new ideas only when requested,
Though I know her head is bursting with bright thoughts.

She has an average face but her smile lights you up;
She laughs contagiously and never disparages life,
She is the girl you cannot hate.

Resolution
Brittany Danzig Jan 2013
Remember that goal you left behind?
All the time you would dedicate,
Then your motivation began to unwind.
Why, such a small thing can wait.

You stumble upon it again,
Renew your will to commit,
This time with a new action plan.
The fire's finally been lit.

The flame holds strong,
Until priorities creep back in,
Reality comes along,
You realize the dark will win.

To protect the heart of the fire,
You must work through detail by detail,
Let perserverance overcome desire,
And you'll find that you no longer fail.

Candle
Brittany Danzig Nov 2012
I see people stare into it
It reflects in their eyes like pools of hope
I make glances at it
A glimmer traces my retina
I process it in bits but never see a full picture
I've seen people reach and be scorched
I'm too timid
Maybe if I waver through it fast enough
I won't be burned

And it rushes through me,
a force of power,
the weight of loneliness,
unbounded in it's affliction,
aided by the rumination,
the thoughts that slip through my head,
through a sieve they fall,
and I feel it again,
that pulse I have succumbed to.

Grounded in a River
Brittany Danzig Apr 2012
Rush through me.
I stand tall, motionless.
The surface floats by me,
But i am rooted in the Earth like the great oak tree.
I wait for my time to be carried by the rapids,
For I am patient and will not give in to your torrents without a fight.
I deserve a grand contention.
The flood will come one day and I will be swept away with honor.

drip drop and wash away
come fall off my lashes
turn the sky gray
light the night with flashes
pound the ground
calm the town
let the rain come down

Independence
Brittany Danzig Dec 2011
We sit comfortably with our backs to the earth,
Satisfied with what we've accomplished of our insurmountable work,
The challenges we've faced to push ourselves forward,
So we can out achieve our peers.

We struggle to win the  respect of those we wish to surpass,
So they can catapult us above them
But we left them behind didn't we?
Did we look back as we flew aloft?

When the thunder crashes on us,
Who'll be there to save us?
No one but our precedent friend,
We'll get by with ourselves again.

Buoyancy
Brittany Danzig Dec 2011
I've been floating in the sea,
Marveling an empty sky,
Bobbing up and down through waves unbound,
Towards an elusive horizon.

No sharks try to pull me down,
No seabirds help me fly,
No boats stop to pull me out,
But no one's left me abandoned.

I don't know how I got here,
Or what I'm meant to do,
Perhaps I'm supposed to float,
Maybe I'm just here out of the blue.

Rather quaint in size,
Compared to the composite surface,
This liquid surrounds me,
But it's motives are dispersed.

Seven Billion Puzzle Pieces
Brittany Danzig Nov 2011
Are we not here to support each other?  Fragments remain desolate, exhausted from their attempt to fit in places they don’t belong. We can never replace someone’s righteousness and impact on the world puzzle with our destructive dominance. It simply won’t work. You’ll never interlock your protrusion into the dented heart of someone else. You’ll only concave them further and hurt yourself along the way. Let us teach our neighbors to connect, to interlace their strengths and sorrows. For none of us are even without the others filling in our gaps and gracing us with their humility. Maybe one day we’ll all be bordered by the conjunction of an endless mind and spirit.

Unjustified Faith
Brittany Danzig Jul 2011
Do you know the one you trust,
To love your life despite your lust?
You talk about him every Sunday,
But who are you the following Monday?

You can show me you're his biggest fan,
But I'm not a part of the "God-Loving Clan."
I'm the one who prays on my own,
Who wants to see his seeds be sown.

Subjective Shadows
Brittany Danzig Jul 2011
Viewing every being,
You'll find a different meaning.
Individuals with separate expression,
Each holding in a large confession.
We carry on our faults and fear,
Can't make our shadows disappear.
We may pretend to have perfection,
But you'll find the cracks upon inspection.
We may all live a separate life,
Though we're troubled by the same strife.
So open up your heart and view,
Those suffering around you.
If we keep consuming all the light,
A shadow's all that lies in sight.

Open Sea
Brittany Danzig Jul 2011
I want the freedom of the open air,
Traveling a path so rare,
The caressing of the wind,
The ocean spray soaks in.

Across the liquid glass we glide,
Underneath, a beautiful world to hide,
I want the beauty of a cloudless sky,
The city chaos, I kiss goodbye.

The murmur of a motor drum,
Inside my heart, I hear its hum.
Suddenly I hear it stop,
The bow begins to drop.

The sun has risen from the sea,
I've safely made it through my flee.

A Photograph
Brittany Danzig Jul 2011
Do you remember who you were?
Are you proud of who you are?
How much pain can you endure,
Before it leaves a scar?
The choices you have made,
You’ve lost your innocence,
Your identity will fade.
You’re left to reminisce.

An old, forgotten picture,
Reminds you that you’re human.
Maybe you’re not a fixture,
That’s why you always ran.

Although you can’t escape,
From what’s running deep within,
You can cut across the tape,
That's bound you to your sin.

For every step you take
A footprint’s left behind,
Our past we cannot fake,
But our future path is blind.

The Moonlight Train
Brittany Danzig Jul 2011
Pick me up from this empty station,
As I wait for the midnight train,
Rescue me from this desolation,
Wake me up again,
Send me to a new destination,
I'll ride alone till then.

Cycles
Brittany Danzig Jul 2011
I'm a wheel; I keep on spinning.
Searching for a new beginning.
I've traveled every road,
I've carried every load,
Take a ride on me,
So you can see,
What I can see.
The world seems so smooth,
When you're always on the move.

Significance
Brittany Danzig Jul 2011
Who's to say we mean the most,
When we are only parasites' host?
Our intelligence will be our demise,
We are destruction wrapped in disguise.

Little sparks waver from the flame,
Though the central force  remains the same.
You can extinguish the fire with shots and smashes,
Yet what remains but smoke and ashes?

— The End —
