Knotted dreads swinging side to side as you walk
The smell of ***** coming from your ragged clothes
That penetrating aroma we all know of that fills our nose
You can hear how soft and genuine you are when you talk
So down to earth, yet so high in the blue skies
I know, ‘cause i can see that red in your eyes
You always wear that smile when someone stares
They look at your eyes as you gaze into theirs
People criticize ‘cause you smoke ****
You just laugh at them ‘cause you now know what they need
currently high

You’re trapped
Caged in like a wild animal inside a dark room of silence
Behind the cold steel bars that are hardly rusting
Inside a building with fences topped with aged barbed wire
Surrounded by empty walls painted a worn out grey
Large halls that almost seem endless
Rooms filled with unfamiliar faces
People of all kinds
Different race
Religion and beliefs
Body types
No one looked the same
But you notice they all have something in common
They all have hollow, heavy eyes
Dead expressions
And no emotion coming from their lips
Each word spoken softly
But each syllable pronounced with fear and hatred
Silent whispers around the room as you walk in
Tired eyes shifting
Following you around
Watching your every move
They’re souls in distress
Caused by loss and misfortune
Bodies of pain and suffering
Deprived of justice and privileges
You try to do your best to not end up like them
Trying not to succumb to this way of living
But you already feel dead inside
Just like them

I smile
But inside i’m broken
Beneath the tough exterior
I’m brittle and vulnerable
My eyes may seem hollow and empty
Yet they’re so full of emotion
The same eyes you see on my face
Are the ones that stare blankly at walls
And cry as i feel my heart shattering inside my chest
I might seem like i’m confident
But in reality i hate myself
I don’t accept who i am
I try not to let others break me
So i lock my feelings inside
And I cage my emotions like a wild animal
I put my heart in shackles just to protect it so i cannot feel
To protect myself from hungry souls
As they try to feed off of my pain
I hear voices in my head
Calling to me
Saying that i must be free
To free my heart
To let others in
But i’m already numb

Save me
