Doves In Flight
The doves in flight,
Catch the morning light.
Dancing, dancing in the sky.

Little do people realize,
That they're fighting for their lives.
Dancing, to the rhythm of my sigh.
This poem was inspired from my observations of the relationship between my friend and her boyfriend.

Knight
If ever there were anything more beautiful than thee,
Something far more beautiful than I could hope to be,
Then I should wish that it, I never happen to see.
For if I did, I fear I’d lose all of my love for thee.

And should this object of beauty ever enter my sight,
Then in shining armour would descend my knight,
With his bright blue eyes and mighty height,
To rescue me from this horrendous plight.

By his sword the mighty dragon would be slain,
Never more could it inflict such awful pain,
And with his hand I shall regain my reign,
By his side my strength will never wane.
This poem came about as a continuation of the first line. However, in the context of this poem, the first line carries a different meaning than was originally intended.

Blue Eyes
I'm as blue as your eyes.

Your eyes are as blue as the sky,
But the sky isn’t nearly as beautiful.

Your eyes are as blue as the sea,
But the sea isn’t nearly as deep.

Your eyes are as blue as a sapphire,
But a sapphire isn’t nearly as precious.

Your eyes are as blue as a robin’s egg,
But an egg isn’t nearly as pure.

Your eyes are as blue as the Blue Morpho,
But that butterfly isn’t nearly as rare.

Your eyes are as blue as a police box,
But a police box doesn’t feel nearly as safe.

Your eyes are as blue as light with a wavelength of 465 nm,
But that light isn’t nearly as bright.

Your eyes are as blue as a horseshoe crab’s blood,
But that blood isn’t nearly as life-giving.

I'm as blue as your eyes.
This a very quirky poem about unrequited love. It was inspired an individual in particular, though there is a bit of exaggeration. Take for example, the fact that his eyes are more of a steel blue than the shade of blue described in the poem.

Lactose Intolerance
I am reminded of the cliché
"It hit me like a freight train."
But honestly, have you ever seen a freight train?
Those things make a **** ton of noise,
They're absolutely ginormous,
And they're not that fast.
You would have to be blind, deaf, and ******* stupid to get hit by one.

So no, the pain doesn't hit like a freight train.
It hits like a avalanche.
You're just sitting there, minding your own business
When suddenly, you begin to feel the thunderous roar.
Before you even realize what's about to happen
You're engulfed in the crippling agony,
keeled over, begging for death.

All this because you wanted some ice cream.
What do you think?

Dancing with Depression
I was just a child when we first met.
You came to me when I was my only company;
But with you there, I was alone no longer.
And then for the first time,
We danced.

From the moment the first shimmering strand of gold
Was spun across the earth that morning,
Until the last tendril of light retreated to the horizon
And the world was enveloped in darkness.
We danced.

Together we danced from dusk 'till dawn.
The only time your hold on me released,
Was but for the warm embrace of sleep.
And then again in the morning,
We danced.

For all these years you stayed with me,
Even after I tried to leave you.
I fought hard, and blood was spilled,
But our wounds healed. And again,
We danced.

Time has passed and things have changed,
I grew up while you stayed the same.
I met someone, his name is Happiness,
And tonight at the ball,
We danced.

I’ll never dance with you again.
In my creative writing class, we were told to write a poem using personification. I've been listening to "Dark Blue Angel" by Sally Seltmann lately, which has me thinking about my depression.

Milky Way
The dim flicker of but the brightest of stars
Is all that reaches me here, in my urban prison.

To see the night sky properly,
To see the shimmering arc of the milky way,
The light of four hundred billion suns painted across the sky.

Such a sight would reach not just to me, but into me.
It would reach my soul, and light it with the warmth of the universe.

And there I could be free.

Celery
Your hair burns in my memory,
Your eyes that glisten cleverly,
Your lips that kiss me tenderly,
On your coat, a peice of celery.
I had this stuck together with "Over Mountain". After re-reading them, I realize that they are not related at all.

My Canada
For a very long time
I wasn’t proud to say I was Canadian.
Not to say that I was ashamed
Of the country that I was born in.
But it never really felt
Like Canada was my country,
It felt more like the country
That I happened to be living in.
I went about my life, ignorant
Of what makes my home so special.
But as time went on, I began to learn
About this Canada place.
I learnt about our laws,
Our people, and our history.
I learnt about our lands,
And revelled in their mysteries.
From the edge of the pond,
To the coast of the shimmering Pacific.
Here lies all that is Canadian.
A land of similarities that unite
Instead of differences that split.
Here lives a people of many races
A land of the free
And a land of diversity.
Home of real beer.
Where people put cheese and gravy on french fries
And don't call it weird.
We call it poutine.
Where maple syrup goes with everything.
Where it doesn’t matter if it's 40 above
All the better to get wet.
Or if it's forty below,
Put on a coat
And play in the snow!
A land where love is free,
What do I care what you like in the bedroom?
It doesn't matter to me.
This is a land of majestic mountains,
A place of powerful prairies,
And of forests of towering trees
As far as the eye can see.
This is a country
I'm proud to call home.
My Canada.
Wrote this for English class. I had to read it aloud to the class; I had a hard time keeping my composure after the bedroom line.

Insomnia
The thought of you
Hooks into my flesh
And suspends me
Just above the surface
Of the waters of unconsciousness.

The mists above the surface tease my lips,
Thirsting for the stilled depths
That lay just beyond their reach.

Purple Grass
All through the purple grass the toads sung a merry tune.
For this night alone, my enemies were to be hewn.
So through the starry night, for you I could swoon.
All of this by the light of the deep orange moon.

It was in the purple fields that we tangoed through the night.
The poison clawed mice never giving up the fight.
They danced along my spine until the morning light.
Their blood red eyes bearing witness to my sacrificial rite.

Even though you left me in the fields where we romanced,
Even with the enemies with which I have danced,
That look in your eyes will always have me entranced.
For you, their attack I had willingly chanced.

But now here I stand, bleeding and without you.
For with my own sword they have run me through.
Don't be sad, I fear my end is overdue.
But hear my final words, and follow them through.

Over the blue mountains and across the yellow sea,
In the purple fields, below the purple tree.
When my bones rest here, my soul shall be free.
Go on to love another, as much as you once loved me.
I don't even know what to say about this poem. Some of it is a metaphor for physical pain I've experienced, while other bits are an exploration of my feelings involving a particular relationship. Some of it is just completely random.

Cameo
Around her neck hung a remarkable cameo,
Of a girl who looked quite like herself.

Carved from the most precious of gems,
Her translucent flesh seemed to glow in the sunlight.
Her features were a shinning example of beauty.
Hair was a challenge, yet each of hers were delicate and precisely cut.
There was not a chip or a crack in her smooth face.
She was surely a masterpiece.

And I could say the same for the cameo.

Just "The Doctor"
I want to run away with you,
Away in that big box of blue.
And hear the question, "Doctor who?"
"I'm afraid we're just passing through."
You really have to be a Doctor Who fan to understand this poem.

Over Mountain.
If only the world would come to see,
Just how beautiful you are to me.

Over mountain, and over sea,
I would do anything, to be with thee.
I separated this poem from the one I now call "Celery", after realizing that they are completely unrelated.

ADD
ADD
Bounce, bounce, bounce, goes my leg under the desk.
Bounce, bounce, bounce, bounce, bounce, bounce, bounce.
This is a ridiculously short piece describing a distracted individual in class.

In my thoughts,
And in my dreams,
I am there with you.

Your arms are wrapped around me.

Your warmth,
And my warmth,
Becomes our warmth.

And In your arms I feel safe.

Your warmth,
It penetrates the darkest parts of me,
And brings in the light,
Filling the wounds of my heart.

Sweet Dreams
Last night you came to visit me.
With your freckled skin, and hair ablaze.
And your deep blue eyes, and piercing gaze
That tears me apart at the seams.

I can still taste the salty-sweetness of your pale skin,
As though I had actually caressed it with my tongue.
I can still smell you, that oh-so-sweet scent,
As though I had actually pressed my nose against your neck.

But the only time I can hold you in my arms,
The only time I can be soothed by the rhythm of your heart,
The only time you will ever be mine in reality,
Is in dreams.
That's twice I've written a poem about you.

Sometimes
Sometimes
When I hold your hand,
I can feel the wrinkles,
Signs of the sands of time
That flowed through those ancient fingers.

But sometimes
Your hands feel small in mine.
They caress my calloused hands.
Your soft fingers,
Not knowing the ravages of time.

Nicholas
If ever there were anything more beautiful than thee!
I wrote this line years ago, but couldn't figure out how to finish it. It ended up becoming my poem Knight, but in that poem the line carries a different meaning than I originally intended. I intended it to mean simply, "You're beautiful," but it didn't feel finished.

Now I've found new meaning in the line itself.

I hereby dedicate this to Nicholas. You are beautiful. Our lives have taken different paths, but I will always find you a beautiful person. We sang together, and it was beautiful. Our song has ended now, but I don't regret making music with you.
