Dreaming of a Distant Land
Brandee Mears Oct 2011
As I take this pen in hand,
My heart is dreaming of a distant land.
A land of hope,
A land of wonder,
A land where darkness cannot plunder.
And as my heart so dreams,
My hand is busy drawing wings
So that I may one day fly
Before my withered heart does die
From all these secrets I have kept
And all the tears I have wept.
In this dreamland, there is no pain,
No secrets, lies, or love in vain.
Only hope,
Only love,
Only light, shining from above.

Darkness in the Light
Brandee Mears Oct 2011
Turn out the light and let the darkness surround you.
As the darkness floods in, fear consumes you.
Fear of the darkness; of the unknown.
You stand there for a moment,
paralized by the shadows in the darkness.
What or who they might be. Soon enough though, you push aside your fear just long enough to run.
Where you are going you know not.
Light is all you want.
Light, the ability to see.
Even the dimmest of light will do.
You just want something that can push away the darkness.
But there is no light to be found.
Only darkness all around.
Now you've fallen and lie face down on the ground.
Fear now turns to dread as the realization that the light is gone sets in.
The darkness is now darker than the darkest of night.
Not even shadows are visible.
The dread turns to miserable nothingness as you give up.
Letting the darkness consume you, you now become a part of it.
Your mind goes blank and you just lay there, waiting.
For what, you know not, but you continue to wait.
For something
Anything.
Finally, dawn approaches and light fills the darkness.
But it's too late.
The darkness has already consumed you.
Though you may be lit up on the outside, inside you are still darker than the blackest of black.
Yet you continue on.
Hoping one day that darkness will be filled again with light.
Even the dimmest will do.
Until then, you continue on in the light,
while you're filled with darkness.
Waiting.

Lost
Brandee Mears Oct 2011
Lost in a forest of confusion.
A lonely travelor has lost his way.
Now he's reached a fork in the road.
Two choices lay before him, but only one decision to make.
It's not the choice of right or wrong or good or bad.
It is of what could be verses what already is.
Once he has chosen, he cannot turn back.
He can only go forward, into the darkness.
But, which path will you choose?

Soon We Will Sail Away
Brandee Mears Oct 2011
Soon we'll sail among the heavens
And soar above the clouds.
But first, we must stay here in the war-zone
And listen as the bugle sounds..
As your heart pounds.
Pounding to the beat of the drum.
So consistent, tis almost a comforting hum.
For if the little drummer boy is to fall,
Defeat is surely soon to call.

Oh but soon we will sail away.
Soon we may see a better day.
So don't give up yet young soldier,
This war is not long till over.
Keep trudging through your trenches.
Keep on marching through the rain.
Don't give in to the pain.

Though you take every blow to your pride
With a smile on your face,
It's ok to cry, you don't have to hide
The hurt and the fear
Of things so far, yet still so near.
Oh but in time e'rything will be alright.
One day soon you won't have to fight..

Life Evades Us
Brandee Mears Oct 2011
Life evades us.
The truth hides from us.
Love runs from us.
We are the cause for our own demise.
For the anger and the greed to rise,
It was us, and us alone who gave permission,
And put charity and kindness into remission.
I fear we have become too broken to mend
And that our world is soon to end.
Yes, this problem is well known.
It has been no one's fault but our own.
Yet, we are too busy blaming others for the problems we created to even care
About our world that's dying, so quietly and unaware.

Stand Aside
Brandee Mears Oct 2011
Stand aside, for it’s not you we want to see.
We want to see the other person.
The one you’ll never be.

We want to see he who sticks out in a crowd;
The one who talks to much
And laughs too loud.

Stand aside so we may congratulate them.
The ones with their heads held high,
Your head starts to swim
As you silently comply.

They ride by on their high horses,
Not bothering to watch their step.
They believe they’re such unstoppable forces,
So bright and full of pep.

So, stand aside and let these good people through.
Just stand in their shadows,
And watch as they smile, nod, and bow on cue.
