The scratch of the pen on paper
Crossing out this line and that
The labored breathing of the person
Writing frantically in her bed

The paper propped up on her knees
The writing messy and small
Her hand showing how
She feels when she's alone

If I was a bird
Would I be able to fly?

If I was a fish
Would I be able to swim?

But I would say
That ifs would only ever become
The things my dreams are made of

So since I am a human
I cannot fly or swim
Way up in the sky
Or deep beneath the sea

And since I am a human
I can create ways
To become like a fish
Or a bird way up in the sky

But the fact is
We humans need money
To do what we desire
Whereas animals have no need for money
They settle things with their teeth
