Words Adrift
Anthony Mendoza Nov 2020
Wind so swift.
Leaves adrift.
Peppered night is our gift.

Laden year.
Acoustic tear.
Come along, we must be near.

Tattered feather.
Majestic weather.
All and all we come together.

Bays of pearl.
Ocean swirl.
Sandstone lies of a mermaid girl.

Faded painted glass.
Restricted mass.
Lifetime schools of learning class.

Circle within circle.
Ancient turtle.
Crossing life's morning hurdle.

Can you see.
Tiger tree.
Lumber skies, forest free.

Crescent find.
Poets mind.
Too many words to cut and grind.

Brilliant lights above the night.
Bright evening swallows on earth's shinning.
Stars parade across a milky highway.
Their shadows play against a drifting moon.
Universe movement and a star is jettisoned.
Fluorescent journey streaks across the lighted quilt,
Burning itself to freedom.
Falling grace.
Amazingly beautiful.

Echoes
Anthony Mendoza Oct 2020
Indian Drums.
They surround me like hollow thunder.
They speak of truth.
Of lost souls who whisper into the dreams of the living.
We feed on their wisdom.
Immortal conjures of nature.

My spirit dances to their rhythm.

To Touch A Star
Anthony Mendoza Sep 2020
It's so amazing to touch a star.
To feel it's warmth shoot through my arms.
It happens to me when I touch you.
As we fly together in the midnight hue.
I know the other stars are jealous, because you are the brightest of them all.
I know they are envious, because you stay in the sky when other's fall.
I know they can't help it, but to bow to your magnificent glory.
I know they'll sing hymns forever, about your majestic story.
So as I lay my head and remember your touch, I say my prayers and close my eyes.
To know I'll sleep peacefully, under the brightest star who reigns the skies.

Winter's Crime
Anthony Mendoza Apr 2020
A sea of clouds drowns the day
Smiling winter has come to play
It's lightning glows in a child's eye
By casting shadows in the sky

But the child now grows so weary
Longing to return to a day with friends
His dream, his wish, his destiny
For smiling winter to come to an end

This wintertime child can't play no games
Lost in the season of summer pain
He lays so still just thinking of
His dream, his wish, his destiny, and the sun

Steadily as time goes by
The drops lay rest on the window sill
There's no truth when winter lies
Taking charge of a child's world

But what it doesn't realize my friend
Is that a child's world is full of magic
Give him the strength and speed of a razor's edge
And watch him rip through winter's fabric

For the child's mind is not unknown
He slips back into the comforts of home
He reads, he writes, he acts out a scene
About a child in winter and that child's dream

Within
Anthony Mendoza Jan 2020
Eyes sees such beauty wthin.
Never ending yearning for life to begin.
We dream to the depths of our spirit and soul.
Awakened with languorous warmth we grow.
Never fading in the sunset's stillness.
Illuminated in presence and stifle brilliance.
Such passion flows in us so wise.
As we see such beauty within our eyes.

Ghosts In The Ruins
Anthony Mendoza Dec 2019
Long ago on Aztec earth.
Arrayed in vigorous trifle mirth.
They raised a temple to the sun.
Where upon ****** hearts came undone.
From feather to feather they gallantly strolled.
Danced and prayed to gods of gold.
Mystical numbers carved in stone.
Tells their lives from flesh to bone.
Aztec souls in spirit land.
Temples from stone, gold from sand.
Missing hearts, ****** wails.
A prayer to the gods when all else fails.
Idols be still their silent breath.
The face of a king, his mask of death.
Blood on hands, crimson glow.
Fires rage as feathers flow.
Leopard skinned, a shamans dance.
Ask protection from the Spaniards lance.
Vanished tribe, a prophecy.
Ghosts in the ruins, none shall flee.

To Steal A Glance
Anthony Mendoza Dec 2019
Such wayward gaze upon the moment siezed.
Indiscreet eyes slowly recieved.
Subtle movement to let it be known.
This look of admiration was not alone.
To shuffle around so as to be seen.
Hoping a spark will show it's brighten gleam.
If only the eyes were to meet it's achieving goal.
Without a doubt, two smiles will help love grow.

Listen To The Wind
Anthony Mendoza Dec 2019
I blew a whisper into the wind.
To the world I send, it's journey begins.
Wayward bound it takes it's flight.
Endlessly passing through day and night.
To reach no end I have no fear.
Infinitely wrapped, so endeared.
It floats to the stars in which we came.
If you listen closely you'll hear your name.

Nights Symphony
Anthony Mendoza Dec 2019
The night ceases upon it's purple fold.
Where dreams come hither and secrets told.
Imagination's melody played by the stars in tune.
A silent seranade to us they croon.
Delusions and dreams are in sweet harmony.
  Swooning alone in night's symphony.

NIGHT DANCE
Anthony Mendoza May 2017
Wrapped among the moon's glow
I came to visit the grave of Poe
The night was still and smelled of old
But nothing like the stories told

I knelt to the grass in form of respect
Unaware of what to come or who to expect
Just then alas in surprised content
A figure stood standing, my eyes did invent

In his hand a bottle, the other a rose
And a bird on his shoulder, a raven of prose
His eyes, his eyes, my body did froze
As I stood face to face with a man called Poe

                     And he said

Welcome to the Raven's lair
Cast your eyes in it's haunted stare
Release your mind and thoughts to bare
Welcome back to the Raven's lair

Quoth he said " Nevermore."
Edgar Allan Poe has unlocked the door
Come let's drink and then explore
We'll sink in wisdom and mystery lore

Step on through this house of dream
See what words are made to be
Live a life you've never seen
Just relax and have a drink

Sip a wine you call desire
Toast to tears and shadows drowned in fire
Feel the house rise higher and higher
Or is it you being pulled down into the mire

Come with me now, oh morally one
See and taste what I have done
Hear The Bells sing as they strike the sun
Hear them ring softly as they wither to none

In sorrow this tale, remember it's plight
For you are the feather, the one who must write
I'll leave you now with the coming of light
Remember, remember, remember this night

                Quoth he said "Nevermore."

Serenity
Serenity
A gentle Rose thou shall be
Your Autumn teardrop shall be remembered
And blown to the stars on winds of grandeur
          Stunningly creed of Venus fair
Arrayed in twinkling vines of Angels hair
Smiles so splendor in moon's softest light
I walk on your whispers, I dance in your night
Your song has brought me comfort, your heart my full desire
It penetrates my soul, your sweet melody, and quickens the joy within my smile
          Truest heart felicity
          Serenade of poetry
A midnight dream both you and me

Strangers
Anthony Mendoza Jan 2017
Strangers confide in the unexpected
For they are also a mystery to themselves
Their faces are blank and ready to drawn upon
You decide what soul they will have or how smart they will be
Wandering
Gathering
Unfamiliar ghost in their silent gazing
Unknown identities
Are you afraid?
Can you talk?
Searching and searching for unspoken diaries and their secret word mutations
Reaching for a transparent hand that isn't there and greeting the eyes of those who don't know you

Morning Whispers
Anthony Mendoza Dec 2016
A finger of sunlight
Pressed on the window
And my eyes awake to it's streaming call
If it knew I was here
It would send a shadow
To spell my name upon these walls

Sleep eludes my soul
And I hear the morning whispers
Of the voice of dawn arrive
Let me be
I ask of thee
To rest my spirit and close my eyes

A splinter of day
Against my skin
And it's warmth resides to prey within
It heats my soul
With burning sin
And throws the ashes into the wind

Its been this same dream
For all my years
I wish it could let me be
Imaginations
Spilling over
And drowning me

The Day, Today
Anthony Mendoza Dec 2016
If what they say is true
Comes the sun in morning blue
Night must give it's moon way
To help deliver this pulse called day
The day, today, amid lost treasured sorrow
Bereaves the night to become tomorrow
A benevolent price for mere strands of gold
As the silver moonlight is cleverly sold
And what about the clouds flying in distant plush
aloft in noon, mystic blush
Would they not succumb to such sweet desire
From serenading harmonies of midday choirs
The days music echoes its rapt enthrall
To bring a crimson eve before the darkest fall
Wandering feathered flights sail majestic dunes
As sunset prevails the afternoon
And sun and moon dance amongst their cosmic tears
To spin minutes into days, days into years

A Smile In September
Anthony Mendoza Dec 2016
Behold my eyes upon your crystal garden
Onto where the fragrant of your beauty lies
Tis a rosebud blush in Autumn growth
Tis a smell of sweetness of your wine
Sunshine dances amongst your golden bloom
It gives an innocent kiss upon your silken pedal
The vibrant touch of it's white caress
Brings enchantment the heavens do adore
A September smile so bright and alluring
Flourishing in the elegance of blooming renown
The golden bells of Autumn do sing
A birthday song for a flower named Serenity

       YOUR NEW BIRTH
Anthony Mendoza Dec 2016
Sometimes when I'm in a dream
Listening to the hummingbird sing
His song carries me on silver wings
Through midnight stars and moonlight beams
Oh so vast and sleeping wake
The reverence of his song I come to take
It lifts my spirit upon a mountain break
Onto the valley of an enchanted lake
There amongst this lakeside rhyme
Stood a cabin of early time
Perfumed by trees of scented pine
Blessed with earthly music chimes
Within it's walls I do endear
Free from hate and haunted fear
From the dancing flames in which I peer
Crystal fire ripples an image so clear
Peace, love and harmony we sing
For all creatures together we bring
A gift so simple I'm offering
Sometimes when I'm in a dream

Here I Lie
Anthony Mendoza Dec 2016
Scented dusk upon the forest lay
The tree grows quiet among the nights foray
Here I lie in darkness day
You a dream, I dream away
White streams of moonlight flight
It's smiling creed, It's eyes so bright
Brings me a shadow before my unconscious sight
An inward gaze into your hearts delight
Here I lie in woods abound
Your words to me a silent sound
Like a mystic river that runs aground
In it's rippling silence, I shall drown
Love from your breath, floats to heaven divine
A meager stranger to a wordless sky
Cold white fires flow, my bodies eye
Leaving torment my soul, my soul once shy
This impossible dream, so languid in movement
Echoed in time, lost and spent
Love betrayed to me you sent
Here I lie in nights lament

— The End —
