Here you are
With your words on the screen
Etched forever
Into the hearts of those who understand them
(And inside the pain doesn't stop)
A picture may be worth a thousand words
But a single word can change a life
And though I am not the greatest of poets
May my words make a difference in you
Because I’m staring at the screen of my computer
Not sure whether to chuckle bitterly or let the tears flow
Looking at this fellow peer of mine
Who’s fallen into this abyss of misery
For far too long have the shadows
That lurk within the depths of the human mind
Ensnared me in their suffocating gloom
Forever in this chasm called “Solitude”
(But we’re not alone
You’re not the only one)
You may not be a perfect person
But that does not mean that your life is meaningless.
You may have faults and weaknesses
Yet they do not define who you are as a person.
On the crumbling path called “Loneliness”
You wander, alone, confused
Angry at yourself at your flaws
Angry for merely existing
Even if your eyes cannot see it physically
Even if you feel like you’re suffocating in darkness
Even if it feels like no one can hear your screams
Even if it feels like no one can see your tears
There are people who will fight for you
There are people who cry for you
There are people who will give up everything for you
There are people who will love you
You’re fumbling in the darkness
Wondering why you’re even alive
But for a second
Just for a second
Look up.
There are people reaching out a hand
Into the darkness, looking for you
Ready to pull you back up
And help you stand once more.
We hear your cries.
We see your tears.
We will fight for you even if you can’t.
There’s more to Adam Liebell-McLean
Than just that insane lunch table he sits at
His fervent debates
His sense of humor
Take a second
Just a second
And behind his mask of happiness
Is a young man who hides his grief from others
I took a second.
Just a second.
And I saw the young man, my classmate
As another one who has fallen victim to his own thoughts
In my heart, knowing how awful it is to bear pain
Knowing what it’s like to constantly have people call you worthless
Knowing what it’s like to want to end your own life
Knowing what it’s like to want to give up completely
You are not worthless.
Perfection is not mandatory.
Not all shortcomings are unforgivable.
Not all dreams are intangible.
You are human.
You make mistakes.
No matter how much you ***** up
Even if you feel like you’re a wretched human being
Even if you find this entire poem to be pointless
Even if you still find yourself an incurable mess
No matter what there will always be people in your life
Standing by your side to the very end
Who will accept you for exactly who you are.
*Flaws and all.
This is for you, Adam.
