The Field of Love
Andy Criddle Apr 2014
Black and white fade away,
Colours seem to mix and fray,
But when I get to hold you tight,
Everything gets put to right.
The battlefield of love is won,
With epic tales of what you've done,
But love is not an easy task,
Especially when one wears a mask.
The truth is all that can break through
The darkness stirring like a stew,
But if you believe you can succeed
Then trust is all you’ll ever need.
Battles lost there are too many,
Battles won, hardly any,
But victory is way too sweet
To not go out and, “wet your feet.”
For love is something with many foes,
But when you win, it never goes.

Pixilation
Andy Criddle Apr 2014
I'm looking at you through a screen
Of pixilated hopes and dreams.
I'm hoping that you see in me
A sense of warmth and security.
Because when I look into your eyes,
Everything around me dies.
The world ceases to exist
And I realize how much I've missed
That calming voice and warming smile
That makes me feel like I'm worthwhile.
Time itself has stopped in its tracks,
And everything around turns from facts
To a blur of love, want, and desire
That rages inside me like a fire.
And even when you’re not around,
You help me when I'm feeling down
Just by knowing when I need you most
I can always find that you are close
When I'm looking at you through a screen,
Of pixilated hopes and dreams.

Universality
Andy Criddle Apr 2014
I once was a child born of two worlds not one
Fleeing a fate I can’t see, one I can not outrun
A shell of a person, a spirit with no soul
A creature foreign to all with no place and no role

Every person I met left me scared and perplexed
Life seemed easy to them, but I always felt vexed
This emotional logic and conventional wisdom
Was beyond comprehension and often quite fearsome

I could not understand why I did not fit in
Was there something I’d done, an unforgivable sin
Or was I missing a piece of what you call humanity
Leaving me broken and taken by insanity

Then at night when the world left me all to myself
I saw through the darkness the hand I was dealt
But though clear as mid day I saw spirits walk by
They never paid notice, never batted an eye

I was part of both worlds but only through chains
I was stuck as a being that nothing could explain
So I tried to reach out to the spirits of the night
Maybe they could give wisdom, and make my path right

I invited them in and I tried to ask questions
But their language was harsh, and all I got were impressions
So I struggled through nights, and I struggled through days
Trying to make sense of this thickening haze

Then one day a being of great power and need
Approached me in slumber and talked of being freed
I was offered a choice that would shatter reality
Save a life and be given a sense of normality

This being would soon die, and I learned I would too
I had skirted existence, and both worlds ran me through
But if we were to merge, like two sides of a coin
We could split our existence, and one world we would join

I would never know fully the truth of my existence
But with a connection I could close one distance
I could focus on the day, learning wisdom and mortality
Knowing through it all I would give up universality

Though my choice was not easy, I made up my mind
To make two worlds collapse, and exist through mankind
So these words are for you, in eternal celebration
May we both forever more be free from isolation

Physical Spirit
Andy Criddle Apr 2014
With all of their talk about spirituality
Fear from the truth that there is no equality
Life that we get is both terrible and wonderful
Lies and deceit make us all become vulnerable

Spirit is something that most of us contemplate
Need to find meaning is hard to accommodate
Look to each other with hope for significance
Give them your mind with your version of innocence

I won't let them make me into one of you
Will live my life the way I wanted to

Each to their own and to each a hypothesis
Trust in my views or you’ll suffer the consequence
Make a new world based on justice and promises
Take all my faith while delivering the opposite

Why should I follow the ways of the prophecies
All it has done is create this hypocrisy
Choose to live off of your own sense of morality
Find your own meaning and make it your reality

I won't let them make me into one of you
Will live my life the way I wanted to

Take what you hear with a grain of deceptiveness
Make your own meaning and mould your own receptiveness
Stand up for yourself and show them your reality
Show them that there’s more to life than their vanity

Live for the purpose of life's great experience
Then all that they do just increases your resilience
Nobody said that the road would be an easy one
Conquer your fears and show them all that you've become

I won't let them make me into one of you
Will live my life the way I wanted to

Perspective
Andy Criddle Apr 2014
Knowledge is a preconception
Ignorance is indeed bliss
The world you see is a perspective
riding on the tide of the abyss

We find ourselves tied to a cage
Blinded by a shell of our potential
We conceal the nature of our will
Afraid to be experimental

Our fight is constant and brutal
And victory is shadowed by complacency
Wisdom is neither right nor wrong
And happiness is your only ecstasy

You are given one chance to be free
And stand strong against the constant
But history and normality tell lies
And trust is always absent

So take life with a grain of salt
And be open to a chance at redemption
For existence is fleeting at best
And hope is your only salvation
