the girl in red skirt
Andrew Jiang Nov 2011
i saw you
across the abandoned street
flushed in tints pouring out of the moon
soaked in hues dripping down the ruby neon lights
smothered in summer's cool

like
fresh strawberries
plump tomatoes
a fallen rose petal
a pinch of cayenne

no need to turn around
your beauty already pierces the dull city
with the ferocity of a desperate swordfish
watch in smug as it bleeds
so casually through
your waist to thigh

these red eyes
watching in awe as your move
effortlessly around your curves
navigating the stares into
a river of desire
rushing down the hills of San Francisco

yet there you stood alone
the awkward sore on the pale face of street
greeting the thinning traffic with a broken smile
painting the corner with your heavenly red light

Generic Love Poem
Andrew Jiang Nov 2011
Your heart beats like a ******* drum
My heart is like a rabbit that is dumb
We Touch and the World stops for no reason
Our love is like the change of some random season

Lost in your deep whatever colored eyes
Sad because your tender heart dies
I hate you for your selfish ways
You hate me for my perverted gaze.

Soul Sigh So
Andrew Jiang Oct 2011
The life lived in a fog
illuminated by different shades of gray
potentiating an explosion of colors
ever vividly fade into our

dreams

alliterating perfectly with
drained, dread, and dreary
bouncing off of the hard shell of reality
ricocheting through this haze we call

life

is meant to be inhaled and exhaled
with symmetrical patterns
tittering on the balance of fate and faith
inching ever closer to the center of mass:

21 grams

light it up and watch it burn
take a puff and free fall
in the high that is lower than
the lowest lows...

failure?

forces the question of whether
the shattered future will reach
its imaginary destination, or
be forever lost in this

twilight

marks the beginning of another tired cycle
weighted down by the burden of success
caught up in the monochrome movie
that parades its credits before the

ending.
I am ashamed to have written this poem.

Repetition
Andrew Jiang Oct 2011
Pose a question that requires imminent answer
Repeat enough times until it has lost its meaning
Flipping a coin to decide if to look for love
if to stay to live, or leave to die

Mutter an answer with subtle silence
Repeat enough times until it has lost its meaning
Pacing inside the agony to find a feeling lost
to take and lose, or give and gain

Reciprocity is the gravity
the equal but opposite force
Holding together yet tearing apart
Ending with a shiver but never start

While we are sitting in this snow-filled room
Soft clouds grazing in the sky following a gentle breeze
I look up and we are already dying
I look down and you are no longer crying

ten seconds later
ten minutes later
ten months later
ten years later

Till forever lasting the soft touch
in fuzzy motion distorts true intention
Repeat enough times until it has lost its meaning
Repeat enough times until it has lost its meaning

To love or be loved
Why not both?

The Gambler
Andrew Jiang Oct 2011
--For my Mother.

Insert another Day in the slot machine
Betting on happiness
Waiting for the stars to align
the wild lights flashing
Toss aside the mathematical improbability
You know the possibility:
Quarters dancing in the metal pan
Soliciting shrills of joy

Such a simple game
between you and the button
trapped in this 11 by 11 casino
All you can do is wishing

Cigarette smoke making you teary-eyed
Stench of alcohol making you nauseous

You get up to leave
But the machine is screaming:
“What's one more day?
When you are betting on happiness?
Don't you hear the laughters?
Don't you see the lights flashing?
Tomorrow is the day,
that I can't promise.
But sit down one more time
All you can do is wishing”

Wishing, pushing
Hoping , waiting
Dreaming, waking
Crying, leaving.

Dig
Andrew Jiang Oct 2011
Dig
We are flighty creatures
Always narrowly escape love
Tip-toeing the tepid water of
Forever or not-at-all

Dancing the day-rentals of
Bridesmaid and groomsman
Always hastily tucks in
Always casually skirts out

Dig in and fly out
Flying away before digging in
Day dream the day dreams come true
Dream the day dream I will say to you:

All                                                                                       just
I                                                                    so                   you
want                                    I                                              to
is                                                                                         back
to                   can                                                               fly
fall                                                                                      to
so                                                                                        time
deeply                                                                                life
in                                                                                        a
love                                                                                     take
with                                                                                    will
you                                       that                                        It

How to break a stone
Andrew Jiang Jun 2010
(My heart is a stone
encased in ice age glacier
tucked away in the nuclear bunker
surrounded by the Great Wall
if the Mongolians  can't get to it
what chance have you?

Let's say you do manage to Mission Impossible reach it
Let's say you somehow Ocean's One steal it
Let's say you also The Bank Job keep it
How are you gonna get through that ice?

It's so cold Russians call it the nuclear winter
It's so cold Kobe rubs it before the game-winning shot
It's so cold Lucifer uses it as a cooler
It's so cold Ice Queen is now the Ice Princess
)

Yet
the trembling rosy lips dissolve the very bond
into silly little ice crystals and snowflakes
resonate so passionately with the frequency
of my stoic heartbeat
the dancing electrons revolted against
ionic-bonds and hydrogen-bonds
the frenzied molecules traded their neighbors
for love, traded themselves for furor
traded ice for fire
traded stone for flesh

and you, traded I for me
hanging ever so desperately on your
red trembling lips
consumed mercilessly
like the very last cigarette
knowing the consequence of letting go:
like ash the wind shall carry me away
a thousand burning ambers flying into the night
like the fireflies on their last journey
I shall melt quietly into darkness
reminiscing about a block of ice.
I was just trying something new, morphing 2 completely different styles into one poem.

Let you Be you
Andrew Jiang Jun 2010
If you were a dream
let me be the eternal sleeper
If you were a song
let me never take off the headphones
If you were darkness
          let there never be light

If I were a boy living the dream
of listening to that song in the dark

Let you be you.

Untitled
Andrew Jiang Jun 2010
as you crash into the room, sending
ripples like a stone breaking water
through the atmosphere, leaves me gasping,
bobbing, surfing through the peaks and valleys
of the disturbance you so casually giggled

one touch from you makes my heart
so big it swallowed the ocean
but you saved it with just a kiss
dares me to wander how you fly without a cape
leaving supersonic trails in the cloudless sky

**close your eyes baby, let us turn around and jump
forget the wings and open the umbrella
like a feather i swing back and forth under your gravity
and you whisper to me
"I am the gentlest letdown--"

Last Embrace
Andrew Jiang Jun 2010
sidestepping the eagerness
you seemed voracious, i seemed anxious
yet we both were capricious
conscious of the choices
like adding N.E.S.S. to a word
doesn’t make it a noun
meaninglessness is still just
meaningless
like adding you and me
doesn’t equal love

no, love
it’s just you
it’s just me
nothing in between
close like lotion and skin
close like coffee and cream
close like
nothing in between
not even

love.
