Three Foggy Night Haikus
Allison Bronson Jul 2010
Cars on the highway
And their lights through the thick fog
Are my companions

The hum of the fridge
And the ringing in my ears
Sing my mind to sleep

Now I imagine
Maybe the morning will come
I dream it will not

Out of Winter
Allison Bronson Jul 2010
Carry me out of winter, love
Set me down in spring
Let our bare toes squish among the molecules of each mud puddle
I'll feel the freckles on my soles sink onto each blade of grass
Smell the wind blowing
Catch scents of approaching summer still tinged with the sharpness of the snow
And when you're chilled
The wind raising each follicle on your arms
A landscape of chapped skin and soft hairs
Run with me indoors
To sweet-smelling sheets
And the sound of the coming rainstorm's first drops
I wrote this as the extra cold Humboldt winter gave way to the still-fairly-cold Humboldt spring, when I was positively overwhelmed with love.
