Christmas
Ali Mayo Aug 2014
Christmas is a time for children
Of Santa, sleighs and snow
Of scented pines, hot mulled wines,
Icy cold noses, cheeks aglow.

Christmas is a time for family
For news throughout the year
Chinking toasts, sumptuous roasts
Well wishes and good cheer.

Christmas is a time for Baby Jesus
Of Wise Kings, angels and stars
An exhilarating night, the glorious sight
Long before computers and cars.

Christmas is a time for presents
Of bright wrappings, ribbons and bows
Of twinkling lights, breathless sights
Candlelight, carols and pantomime shows.

Christmas is a time for giving
To spare a thought for the lonely and old
A letter or gift, spirits that lift
To be remembered, not left out in the cold.

Christmas is a time for excitement
Of waiting for Santa to show
Milk and mince pies, delighted cries
From the biggest kid I know!

The Blackbird
Ali Mayo Aug 2014
The blackbird trills with merry voice
At the onset of the night
Its melody piercing hazy murk
Singing with glorious might.

How impressive for one so small
To out-sing the robin and the lark
To call upon those thermal tides
Coursing cross lane and hedge and park.

Oh sweet, enchanting warbler
Let your tune pierce every heart
Your voice is the last, we hear at night
And first....at the fresh day's start.

I know not what drives my passion
Nor what feeds my mind
I cannot but be besotted
By words of any kind.
I have searched the corners of my heart
From the deep south to the frozen north.
I can draw no definite conclusions
As the prose just utters forth.

Life is like a banana....
Ali Mayo Aug 2014
Life is like a banana....
With its firm, sweet fruit inside
But if you carelessly drop the skin...
You're likely to take a slide.

So this is the moral of the story.....
To enjoy Life's little treat...
Discard your peel in the nearest bin...
And you'll stay upright on your feet!

Intensity
Ali Mayo Aug 2014
I want you to plunge right in me
Feel your fingers yank my hair
I want to see the hunger
Of your heated, ravenous stare...
I want to feel you moving
Set a fiercely, lustful pace
I want to sense the moment....
Your control has lost the race....
I want to embrace your body
Grasp you tightly with my thigh
I want to hear your rasping moan,
Hear your deeply, sated sigh.....
I want to hold you to me
Feel your heat upon my skin
I know your love's gone through me
Purging demons...deep within....
I want to whisper 'I love you...'
Caress that staggering beat
I want you to know....you are my world
I am unequivocally.......complete!

You're the one.....
Ali Mayo Aug 2014
You're the one ....
Who makes me laugh.....
                          rushing tingles down my spine
Who puts me in my place
Whose absence, makes me pine.

You're the one....
Who makes me smile.....
                       overwhelms me with good grace
Who reaches deep within me
makes me yearn for your embrace.

You're the one....
Who makes me chuckle....
Who keeps me company throughout the night
Who lingers selflessly by my side.....
                        who disappears at first light.

You're the one.....
Who makes me giggle.....
Who shows me that you care...
Who's made me fall head over heels
Who's caught me in his snare!

Blood on the Playground
Ali Mayo Aug 2014
Frosted windows hide
clipped time tells
bells ring alarms
nurturing minds roll

secure zones infringed
needless insults hurled
caution held in detention
gleaming steel sullied
silence, the loudest sound
no more innocence
blood on the playground...

Enough
Ali Mayo Aug 2014
I will not look to the East for your coming,
I will not search the ground for your trace,
I will not gaze at the stars and wonder,
When next I will feel your embrace.

I will not turn my back on the sinking sun,
I will not listen upon the scathing wind,
I will no longer imagine your sweet tongue,
My yearning has wearied and thinned.

I will shut my ears to your melody,
I will cram all thoughts from my head,
I will cast my heart upon the surging tide,
And pray that soon, I'll be dead.

For I know that in this lifetime, I'll not find you,
Though I searched this Earth, both far and wide,
So I dream of a future embodiment,
With you quintessentially by my side.

Ghost
Ali Mayo Aug 2014
You crept into my mind
when I wasn't looking
you dashed across my Big Screen
to catch my attention
you lurked in my shadows
scaring the wits out of me
yet, when I turned to face you
the emptiness swallowed me

You pulsated through my veins
only to ooze away through my pores
you drifted in to my personal space
and dissipated into the ether
you stroked my aural rainbow
then left before I could reciprocate
yet, when I tried to catch up with you
the emptiness swallowed me

Your fingers run provocatively over my skin
leaving nothing but goose-flesh
your voice whispers in my dreams
hinting at your all-embracing presence
my cheeks burn with the lightness of your kiss
as the hairs on my neck rise
yet, the more I try to reach you
only the emptiness swallows me

I WILL take matters into my own hands
you will tantalise me no more.....
no more will you creep or drift
into the peripheries of my existence!
For I am coming to meet you face to face...
tis only fleeting this bittersweet taste
no longer elusive...
I swallow the emptiness!

Longing
Ali Mayo Aug 2014
My soul roams free over your blistering plateaux
And yet I cannot reach you
I cry for dusty, desolate roads...
Reach back.....I beseech you!

I yearn for your bewildering sea breezes
Your mountains tug my heart
Fascinated as the Protea sneezes
Fynbos, vineyards, donkey cart.

These memories embedded are my torture
I writhe within my pain
Berg winds, sand and sun that'll scorch you
I pray for my obsession to wane.

It's not the people that I miss
Their ****** violence will only defile
Your pulse, your rhythm and oh...your kiss
'Oh Africa!' ..........cries this exile.

Your virus has penetrated veins
My heart and brain conflicted
Your dreaming time remains
Forever, my soul addicted!

Setting Sail
Ali Mayo Aug 2014
Let me push the ship out
For deep, dark waters await
Adventure may just be beginning
Or a morbid, watery fate.

Let me cut the mooring ropes
Allow me to freely drift
Into raging, turbulent swells
Or gently, wallowing lift.

Let me weigh the anchor
Leave the sanctuary of the bay
The unknown lies before me
To face....come what may.

Let me take on ferocious oceans
Let me face ruthless seas
Let me throw my creativity
Before those, who are hard to please.
Let me take my chances
Let my focus never drop
The Siren of Failure may lure me
But my Muse will never stop!

The Poet's Lurgy!
Ali Mayo Aug 2014
Mucous trickling down my nose
Ice crystals forming twixt my toes
Mind juggling with full-blown prose
What a way to go?

Bronchial valves erupt from deep
Eyes blurring from lack of sleep
Insidious thoughts continue to creep
What a way to go?

Sinus passages gurgling to drain
Phlegmatic vocal chords taking the strain
Cranial neurons humming a refrain
What a way to go?

Poet's Block!
Ali Mayo Aug 2014
What to do when the words won't come?
I rack my brains and I **** my thumb!
I wrestle with meters that make no sense.
My jumbled grey matter can be so dense!
I tap my pencil and wrinkle my nose...
Why can't I work out this ******* prose?
My mind boggles, my eyes go skew-whiff
My words are slurred, my verse ....too stiff!

I need my poetry to gently flow
Like a softly, swelling breeze...
To wrap itself around the heart
To capture and to tease...
the listener into wanting more
of this tender, undulating verse.
Until then, I'll have a tantrum
And rant and rave and **curse!

I Dare...
Ali Mayo Aug 2014
Dare I channel these thoughts
into a stream of words
rushing through this wilderness
that is my life?

Dare I breathe a hint to the rustling wind
glancing off these shadowy leaves
baring a glimpse of undergrowth
hidden beneath this jungle of dark secrets?

Dare I tentatively hold onto
the fragile tendrils of your trust
within these gnarled boughs
of my withered hindsight?

Never again shall I wish upon a shooting star
as I stumble along this mist-driven path....
no longer will I wring my doubts....
through life's mangle

My goal is a far-off beacon....
........I dare!

Eternal Hope
Ali Mayo Aug 2014
How many miles does one need to walk
Within the shadow of the moon?
Before one glimpses a fleeting ray of light
Dashed to smithereens all too soon?

How far does one need to stumble
Along the wretched, rocky path
Before an arm is proffered
Without bitterness or wrath?

How long must one crawl
Over obstacles treacherously wide
Before a patient hand picks one up
Staggering....never to regain one's stride?

Yet within one's core....the soul
As it arouses itself to cope
Within its seamless, infinite depths,
Wells the source of eternal hope!

Oh I wish....
Ali Mayo Aug 2014
Oh I wish I could win the Lottery
And own a home of my own
Where I no longer need Social Security
Or feel always in need of a loan.

Oh I wish I'd no need to count pennies
And that Christmas came every day
That 'Housing Benefit' were ***** words
And bills  - a delight to pay!

Yet I may not have two brass farthings
My bank account won't reach double figures
At least I walk around with a smile
My personal wealth brings on the sniggers.

Oh I might never be Rockerfeller
As my bank account continually drains
There's rarely a glimmer of sunshine
It never pours, but constantly rains.

I can't confess to NOT being happy
And I'm wealthier than I appear
I've still got all my marbles,
Fish and chips, telly and beer!

So I'll continue to draw Social Security
Until the right position can be found
But I won't ditch my dreams or my wishes
So each week, I'll still pay my pound!!!

Victorian secrets
Ali Mayo Aug 2014
Photo's of an age gone by
Stances stiffly captured
Set within sepia dye
Imagination....enraptured!
Ne'er again to unfold
Conundrums; mysteries telling
Nought for the mirror to behold
Yet one hears the measures swelling!

Albeit the roving eye is jaded
Secrets remain concealed
Ancient memories faded
Resisting, they will not yield.
How can we pierce the aged veils
The evidence to detect?
Engorge ourselves in its entrails....
Its depths eventually deflect!

And so the surmised past unravels
Amidst anticipated surprise.
Fraught by centuries travels
The timepiece chimes.....dies!
We are but one step closer,
The buried truth, so long gone...
Greets the dawning with the crow, Sir
Glimpsing a recalcitrant aeon.

You...
Ali Mayo Aug 2014
You phone me every single night,
You tell me that you care....
You prise from me, dark secrets,
You strip my soul quite bare....

You sweetly murmur in my ear
Of things you like to share...
To you, I turn when nightmares come,
But you.......are never there!

You whisper all your gentle thoughts....
You raise me from despair.....
You leave a trail of scattered emotions.....
I remain.....dangling in the air....

You breathe a hint of something more...
You inspire a feeling that's so rare
You will never know, if you don't ask...
Just how much it is.... I care....

Come and lie beside me
Ali Mayo Aug 2014
Come and lie beside me
Soak my essence in
Feel my heat responding
The goose-flesh on my skin

Come absorb my presence
Lead me along that path
Synchronise our heartbeats
Hold me, make me laugh

Come and feel the flutter
Note the hitching of my breath
Your nearness sends me reeling
Towards that quiet death

Come revel in the excitement
The subtle rhythms, the grasp
Nails raking down your flesh
The collective, sensual gasp

Come and linger within me
Know that you have made your mark
This union has set free
That all elusive spark

Come and lie beside me
Know that my senses are aware
You have laid waste to my defenses
And my soul lies completely bare.

Insidious......deceptive...
under cover of the dark...
Inveigling....creeping...
grasping at my heart!

Whispering.....yearning....
suggesting, but discrete....
Implying....hinting...
paths that cross and meet.

Howling ......longing....
echoing deep inside.....
Tempting......prising....
forcing feelings to collide!

Gasping.....screaming.....
whimpering my plea.....
Unclasp my soul with both hands....
and set it roaming free.......

Annihilation
Ali Mayo Aug 2014
How late the night drifts through our whimsical lives.
How bright the day dawns....raising hope, nurturing existence.
How deep swells the waters, ebbing our emotions with its tide.
How swirls the mists of time, blurring our sight ....our senses.

We will yell in protest against cruelty and anarchy,
We will tread gingerly through the posterns of history,
We will rail against the tempest that erodes our faith,
We will cradle frail tendrils of endurance and survival.

We may file against the Almighty for the wanton destruction,
We may flee before the kernel of our world implodes,
We may never be able to attempt a reconstruction,
Our memories are but motes within our Universe.

We heed not the gratuitous warnings,
We continue along our path, blinkered and scornful,
Who will turn off the lights behind us?
Our essences unable....our spirits mournful....

Candour and truth cannot help us now,
Cataclysms will smack us between the eyes,
Too late! We gasp our indignation...
Too late!  We crumble and our world dies.....

Things that I love....
Ali Mayo Aug 2014
I love the simple things in life....
The heart rending bird-call just before dawn,
Crunching footsteps across frost-bitten grass,
Scudding clouds across an engorged full moon,
The reverberation of waves as they hit the cliffs below,
The unsteadiness of new-born legs,
The sensation of snow on rose-heated cheeks,
The diaphragm throbbing bass of an orchestra,
The taste of salt when a storm riles the sea,
The feel of grass between my toes,
Sensual music oozing through my veins,
Getting caught in a shower of cherry blossom on a windy day,
Being dazzled by colour and artistic renditions,
Receiving a present that someone has made themselves,
Happy endings,
A seductive kiss in the rain,
Films that grab you by the short and curlies,
Books that invade and probe your imagination,
The feel of a butterfly landing on my skin,
A yearning to reach beyond our universe and visit the tantalising stars that I see on a clear night,
The unrestrained laughter of a child,
The mischievous glint in someone's eye,
A replete sigh, indicating good food, good wine and fantastic company,
A friend contacting me out of the blue,
Bare skin upon bare skin,
Cobwebs glistening with early morning dew,
Wood-smoke as it wafts up my nose,
Fulfilling the expectation in someone's eyes,
Snuggling against a beating heart,
The sensation of a cold mountain stream on a sweltering day,
People that make me think and laugh,
The rub of an unshaved cheek,
The quickening of my pulse at the thought of finding my soul-mate,
Rain clattering on a corrugated iron roof,
An unexpected hug or kiss,
The feel of polished marble or wood beneath my finger tips,
The unbridled intensity of a storm,
The first rays of a sun-rise and the diffused glow of a sunset,
Rustling through a carpet of leaves,
Someone snoring in my ear to send me to sleep,
Feeling the sun on my face after a cold snap,
The tactile feel of warm fur beneath my hands,
Waking up in someone's arms,
Singing along to my favourite songs without being self-conscious,
Making slow, sensual, all-encompassing love!

Somewhere under the Super Moon
You lie awake and see....
Somewhere under the Super Moon
The same drifting stars as me...
Somewhere under the Super Moon
Your hear reaches out for mine...
Somewhere past the Super Moon
Our planets meet and re-align.

Somewhere under the Super Moon
You gaze up to endless skies...
Somewhere under the Super Moon
They're reflected in my eyes.
Somewhere under the Super Moon
My soul awaits its turn.
Somewhere under the Super Moon
It's mate's unwitting yearn.

Somewhere under the Super Moon
I cling on...willing to survive.
Somewhere under the Super Moon
You too.....remain alive.
Somewhere under the Super Moon
Our two separate bodies beat.....
For it'll be one night under the Super Moon
These two lost souls will meet!

— The End —
