She Wanted Nothing More
AJ Salazar Aug 2017
She wanted nothing more but to fly
Beyond the ever-present evergreen trees,
But she was too afraid to try.

Still she swore that one day she'd buy
A plane ticket and go wherever she pleased.
She wanted nothing more but to fly

Amidst the cotton candy clouds in the sky
And visit lands with exotic cheese,
Alas she was too afraid to try.

This desire followed her into the night
For even in her dreams
She wanted nothing more but to fly.

In her mind she'd be gone by Fourth of July,
Dipping her toes in foreign seas.
Alas she was too afraid to try.

Perhaps her hopes weren't to be realized.
All she knew was that she needed to leave.
She wanted nothing more but to fly.
Alas she was too afraid to try.
This is the first time I've posted in YEARS.
I've looked back on my old poetry on here and I have so many mixed feelings, tbh. I was SUCH an ANGSTY TEEN. I'm now 19. I've aged; I've grown; I've matured. Hopefully, so as my poetry.
This is a poem I wrote for my Introduction to Creative Writing class a few months back when we were studying 3 specific formats of poetry. For the assignment, I'd chosen to do a villanelle and this was the outcome (after revising it for the class's final project). I'm pretty proud of it!
I plan on sharing some more poems in the future. Let me know your thoughts on this one!

The County Fair Thief
AJ Salazar Nov 2013
The sky was lit in wondrous lights
Thriller rides filled with delighted children
Aromas of kettle corn and turkey legs
Family, friends, and couples all making memories
Local bands took turns on the stage
Quick as a fox, he stole a day of her life

Lost counts of the times they went ‘round and ‘round
The sound of her laugh encouraged him
Though there as the best of friends
Something else was clearly in the air,
Other than cooked meat that is
In between smiles, he stole glances at her

Fireworks cracked, sending thunder-like sounds into the distance
Pins were knocked over and stuffed animals were won
They finished the funnel cake in no time
And bumped their cars, laughing as they got stuck
Stars shined as they paused at the top of the Ferris wheel
That was when he stole a kiss
I wrote this one during the summer, after having spent the day at a county fair with some friends.

Untitled III
AJ Salazar Nov 2013
It's that time of year
when jack frost greets us every morning
The leaves have fallen
    and so have I
I want to feel your warmth
and your breath as the cold winds dance
And whisper into your ear,

     *je t'aime
I haven't been on here in forever, but I've still written a few poems.
Not sure how I feel about this one. Let me know your thoughts!

insomnia
AJ Salazar Jul 2013
Same four walls
Restless movement
Staring at empty space
Far too many sleepless nights
It has become a (bad) habit of mine
All this is all too familiar to me
Feeling refreshed is rare
Tiredness is common
Could this be
*insomnia
It's been awhile hah. So I finally finished this one c: I have a few others that are WIP

Tortured, triggered, and tempted
Trying but cannot help it
Two words silently shouting

“Save me”

Haunted.
AJ Salazar Jun 2013
I remember everything, your eyes and smile
Your voice and laughter
Your arms around me and
My heart beating like crazy
It haunts me
I remember when we shared a special moment
When I started to fall
Slowly as the days went by
I had hope you'd be there to catch me
But you weren't
It haunts me
I remember thinking perhaps it wasn't our time
Maybe we were only to be friends
Rather than lovers
But didn't you feel something?
I have, for several months now
It haunts me
You might have felt it
You might have said something about it
I should have asked you
You are far gone now
And the thought that I won't know,
It (*******) haunts me
Hello. I've been working on a few poems lately that still need to be worked on, obviously. And I felt like putting up another on here and came up with this one a few moments ago. So yeah.
I have mixed feelings about this one...

Speechless
AJ Salazar Jun 2013
I touch my scars
Not on my arms or legs
But on the inside of my cheek
From biting down a bit too hard
When letters have stumbled behind
My lips, not able to form into w o r d s
this one's weird..

My Favorite Song
AJ Salazar Jun 2013
You are the lyrics stuck in my head,
playing over and over again
The beat that pounds my heart
The rhythm which makes my head nod
You are the chords which I want to play,
and practice until it's perfect
The notes I want to memorize
The music I never want to forget
You are my favorite song
I like how this turned out ^-^

On My Mind
AJ Salazar Jun 2013
You’re often on my mind,
wandering in and out
I think about what we could have been,
should have been
But maybe it is all in my head
Maybe I just can’t move on
And believe me, I have tried
But still, you’re on my mind
I have mixed feelings about this one..

It’s been a while since our eyes last met
I am starting to forget their color
And that saddens me

AJ Salazar Jun 2013
Love is a pretty big thing for us Pisceans
When we fall, we fall hard
Which ***** for me since I am quite clumsy
is this a poem? I do not know

I Have Him Memorized
AJ Salazar Jun 2013
“No one’s perfect until you fall in love with them”
That’s what they say
And I've fallen for a boy
Who couldn't possibly fall for me
But I fell for him anyways,
And he is perfect in my eyes
But it is useless for he won’t love me back
Quite sad, isn't it?
He must not realize that he wanders
Into my mind every so often
I have him memorized
While he barely glances my way,
And has taken over my daydreams
I had no idea what to name this at first

I wrote a poem
AJ Salazar Jun 2013
I wrote a poem in my head
Sadly, I forgot what it said

A thought so perfectly perfect
Words flowing just right
No chance to write it down
And away it slipped
From my mind

Oh well
my first poem on here whoo~
