Offensive Fence (Monorhyme)
Abby McMichael Jul 2010
Please, try not to take offense
To the fact that I dislike your fence.
It really does not make much sense
To react in such defense.
You ask why, and I will commence
Explaining my distaste for your fence.

Yellow (Color Poem)
Abby McMichael Jul 2010
Third color of the rainbow
Warm like the sun
Sour lemons and buttery popcorn
Sand tickling your toes
Endless fields of dandelions
Yellow

Serene Scenery (Pastoral)
Abby McMichael Jul 2010
I stare out the window of my car
And watch the rolling hills go by
The fields of wheat and rows of corn
Blending into the cloudless sky.

Kicking up dust from the dirt roads
That turn beneath us, twisted awry
Surrounded by complete serenity
I kiss the city life goodbye.

Sonnet 1
Abby McMichael Jul 2010
Centered on the table, there sits a bowl
Filled with the fruits of a rainbow of shades
Colorful essence erupts in my soul
Maroon, chartreuse, rose, goldenrod, and jade

Ignore the mouth watering sensation
Caused by a vibrant banana - yellow
I cannot give in to my temptation
The priceless jewels lay silently, mellow

I gaze at the fruit in perfect rapture
Stroking my fingers against smooth cherries
Such sweet gems have my attention captured
I eye the dozens of bright, plump berries

I soon discover a fate so drastic
The flawless bowlful of fruit is plastic

I do not know
Why the sky is blue, the grass, green.
I do not know
When no one hears, does the **** crow?
Did we come from a God, unseen?
What all of the answers would mean
I do not know.
Abby McMichael Jul 2010
I try, but do not mind.
As we bid to each, farewell,
On that high cloud, silver lined.

Is this love?  Our hearts entwined,
I wish I could, but cannot tell.
I try, but do not mind.

If ‘tis true, then, ‘tis blind,
As we part, tolls the bell,
On that high cloud, silver lined.

I attempt to put behind
The sure sounded, ringing knell.
I try, but do not mind.

Oh, that road, that road does wind,
Though, choice, it does not compel,
On that high cloud, silver lined.

His soul, so very bright, it shined,
How very clear, as I retell:
I try, but do not mind,
On that high cloud, silver lined.

One Last Day
Abby McMichael Jul 2010
The victims refuse to surrender,
Hiding and ignoring blight.
The canaries do not share their splendor,
Won’t sing their songs, won’t take flight.

Death is imminent; We shall not part
On this dreadful one last day.
As the fallout slowly starts
We fall to knees and begin to pray.

They mar the suns in our broken sky,
Yet, we have not lost all hope.
The end continues to draw nigh,
Toward salvation, we do lope.

But in defeat, we wipe our brows,
As black as night, it beckons, still.
I tear my heart out, useless now, and
Place it, beating, on the sill.

We'll Never Know
Abby McMichael Jul 2010
The clouds of ash overhead
Darken and fill our lungs.
Though there are but few dead
Days have passed since the birds have sung.

It's so beautiful, yet we mourn
And never fully understand.
Our perspective and our hearts are torn
With devastation from the unplanned.
