Release the Butterflies
Thomas Morrone Nov 2018
October 17, 2018
Let me out of your tired toolbox
I’ve trapped myself inside
And you have the code
To unlock my brain
Release the butterflies

Let me see the sun
Only when you need something;
Chew your food for you,
Scrub your thoughts clean
Kick my clock in the can,

Till you run towards the sun again
Holding hands with Romeo,
Then crawling back like Rapunzel
Asking “Why’d I get burned?”

But I’m your lap dog now
My pupils like black holes
A mask over my mind,
Chose to breathe in your soft surface
And filter your cold blood

Let me see the sun
Only when you need something;
Pour me a glass of nothing,
Make my lips your territory
I’ll play pretend
While you plan your next departure

You’ll be back for your bandage,
Lay me carefully across your scab,
Rip me off quick
After the wound heals,
While It pinches you slightly,
It stings me during and after

But nothing is more intriguing
Than being glued to you.
And peering through your pores
For just a few moments.

They’re all I want to know.

After all, my brain’s butterflies have only flown
When you pulled me out,
Into the sun

Matcha Tea
Thomas Morrone Nov 2018
Jar of my teeth
Sitting on the windowsill
Where I sip matcha tea
Rejuvenate maturity

Hear Him rap the door
Tok tik tok
Sixth time this week
Why am I in shock?
Thrives off fossils like me,

Dust in the crevices
Paper for skin
For thirty years
Dead *******

I let Him in
Skulks around the place
Morbid clothes and beard
But a welcoming face.

I sip matcha tea
Last drop in my cup
Shakes his head in pity
Pouring new life
On my infancy

Never any luck,
Offers me lily tea
Resist no more
Brews life inside of me
Fills my lungs with streams
Freeing to not breathe

Youthful Assimilation
Thomas Morrone Nov 2018
Exiting the womb
His mind begins to bloom
All thoughts made up by him
No noses poking in
But...

Soon they come
Groups of lamb boys with drill guns
He just can’t be the lonely runt
Let ‘em drill his cranium
Taint the left side of his brain
Animal to constrain
He joins the flock

Barefaced innocence
Comfort in her skin
Mother Earth’s children
Laughed and did her in
And…

Exhibit oneself
Couldn’t stand to be herself
Hid her entire complexion
Caked her face in foundation
Blended in so very well
Lost in the magic spell
Of puberty
