Woah, that guy's deep.
Do you think he might drown
down there, all by himself?
He might come up
for air soon, right?
Someone should probably go check
But that's a lot of pressure.
It's safer up here.

Longing is a thing done
Much like love, it besets itself upon your days
Coloring the ways you think and feel, like never before
But the way it's done, once begun, is up to you
My people tend, by reflex, to turn longing into desire
It's easier that way, an end in sight, desire seeking
The solution to itself
But it's no solution, only distraction
Desire takes as it goes
Pretending it will leave when it's had its fill, but
Before long, always returns, lingers, leaves you wanting
Longing, though, knows
The longed-for thing, never still or stagnant
Is life in itself
Not there to be had, gotten, taken
So it stands under and works
Reaching
Reaching
Reaching
Never to grasp, hold, steal, eat, consume
Not seeking to be met or filled
Only to love and cherish
Life the way it is

I want to see you soar;

Hear your heart beating wing-strokes
Thrashing morning sky
In whirled ascent;

Glimpse the joy of outstretched wings
Catching rising winds
In weightless orbit;

Lose sight of you
In the light of the sun
And wonder

Whether you'll come back to me.

I want to see you free.
