The Little House in The Woods
By: Sam Crosby

The little house in the woods
Broken and rundown
Caves in beneath its weight
Alone, Unfound

The porch used to hold a light
Placed there with love and care
To guide those home at night
Who would otherwise despair

Now it’s dark, empty, and cold
Bruised, battered, and stained
Joy once held up this house
Slowly it dies, abandoned, pained

Several passed through or so it’s said
On the path beaten down and worn
But few saw where it led
The house uncared for and torn

Those who saw the heartache
Joked, judged, and with a shiver past through
Dismissed their careless mistake
If only they knew

But then one day someone stopped to look,
Beyond hurt and shattered dreams,
Found the compassion that it took,
They help restore the broken beams

Restore me with beauty,
with understanding within reach.
