The Ocean
Dennis Faulk Jan 2018
A summer Saturday
On the road with my thump
Hoping for no bumps on my road
Just my towel and bathing suit
Looking to go Jones's
Where the sand is long and hot
That West End 2
Waves to play all day
Across this island paradise
Offering a sweet summer swim
Deep in a flux of ocean rays
The tide is out
The day is gone
Eyes billowing sea salt
On that road again, my thump
Got this burn happening
While the Atlantic oceans waves
Across this island paradise
So I say, I need wheels
To tour my island paradise

Let me Down
Dennis Faulk Jan 2018
I can dress you up
You can let me down
I Love you even more
You can even do less

I'll still hold your door
I'll still carry your bags
I can dress you up
You can never let me down

I know my heart melted
When you stole me whole
To hid my love away
Just to let me down

I'll always dress you up
I'll still melt for you
I'll hold your heart
I'll carry your love
But honey, just don't let me down.

Little Boys
Dennis Faulk Jan 2018
Little Boys, they play all day
Little Boys, don't need no toys
Scruff and *****, little boys
Sneakers and shorts, little boys
Playing with sticks and stones
Finding spiders and snakes
Taking a mud dirt swim
In search of ponds and streams

Little Boys, don't need no toys
Little Boys, they do have toys
Sticks and stones, spiders and snakes.
Playing all day to starlight
No concern behind their sight
In search of the unknown
Little Boys, look out
Finding my own ponds and streams.

A Dainty Boy
Dennis Faulk Jan 2018
I was A Dainty Boy
In all my robes
In all my jewels
Colf stick at my side
My youth was coursed by elders

Knowing my place
And places to come
Served by servants
Protected by walls
Groomed by power, for power

I was A Dainty Boy
In todays society
Enriched by others labor
No sense of hunger
My youth set above, the lesser set

Still my place. And places to come
Unknown in today world, tomorrow
Today's world is only today
Stars and the sun are tomorrow

I am The Dainty Boy
In all my wealth, and glory
Yet I'm still just a youth
Will I see the stars and the sun,
Will I see tomorrow

"Ready As...,
Dennis Faulk Jan 2018
So I brushed my teeth
Put the part in my hair
And shined that Apple
Ready as ever my teacher

So I got dressed
With new threads on
As I tied my shoes
Ready for teachers rules

So I look so good
Cause I know I'm cool
Yet I know I'm bad
Ready as an Eddie Haskel

So I ask the bus driver
"What holds the bus together?"
"The nut behind the wheel!"
Ready as an Eddie Haskel

So the teacher gets the apple
Spitballs and passed notes
Knowing I look so good
I'm just an innocent 6 year old boy!!

Sweet Lord
Dennis Faulk Jan 2018
Oh Sweet Lord
Born in humble glory
A new world saving
Shepherds guide the way

Our Sweet Lord
Land beyond holds your fate
Curved by nature's grace
Topped by man's hand

Please Sweet Lord
Forgive our blindness
Bless us to see
A baby to heal us

You Sweet Lord
The shelter of life
The nature of time
The Shepherd guides us

My Sweet Lord
Shepherd my life
Guide the way
Out of the blindness

A Man and His Wife
Dennis Faulk Jan 2018
There is a Man
With his world, his wife
Transported by wheels
Fueled by love
A world unknown
By gods design
Laugh or cry
Smiles are a Motown beat
There lives a Man
Along with his love
Transported by wheels
Fueled by love
In a world unknown
To let you and me Know
Life is a complex love
Hearts bound in pride
Two hearts rolling as one
Fueled by love
Transported by wheels
Fueled by love

Evening Sky
Dennis Faulk Jan 2018
Why she loves me?
Why she cares for me?
With my shortcomings
With my faults

The Evening Sky dressed in golden hues.
Rolling across a pressed red horizon
A dance of beauty behold
Gave promise  To tomorrow

Why does she love thee ?
She is my Evening Sky!
Giving me promise for tomorrow
With all my sins

Why does she care for me?
My Evening Sky glows in her eyes!
As I dance with her beauty
She gives me tomorrow promises

She is my Evening Sky
Dressed in golden hues
I dance with beauty
For tomorrow promises

The Bridge
Dennis Faulk Jan 2018
Something special bout this bridge
As the day's Sun rest west
Something special crossing that bridge
As the day's sky glowed red
Church steeples guiding the way
Chasing my fears away
Chasing sunsets across that bridge
That old Susquehanna River
Crossing her west at sunset
Church steeples chasing my fears away.
To bring me home.

The Courtyard
Dennis Faulk Jan 2018
In Dutch time
His time so taken
With dress and pleasure
Courting his society
In a Dutch courtyard

Pieter has no time
In Dutch time
Only his bottle
Only his friend
In his Dutch courtyard

Only last so long sixteen
Delight be taken
When his pipe flows
To a filled glass
Only in a Dutch courtyard

His clothes so defined
In his ruff
With capotain brimming
Only his bottle, Only his friend
Only time in a Dutch Courtyard

Luna
Dennis Faulk Jan 2018
I'll just lay here
Be of no concern there
But a nice rub right here
While I stretch out anywhere
You can call my name
Easier just to feed me

So I'll just hang here
Be of no concern near
But a nice rub will do
While I stretch my paws
You can say my name
Easier just to shake the food box

So I'll just chill here
Be of little notice now
But a nice rub my friend
While I stretch on your lap
Don't mind my purr
You can call my name
Just easier to feed me

Friend
Dennis Faulk Jan 2018
Ran down a road
To find a friend
Lost in a summer sun
On a red hot neck
Couldn't find the boots
As rooster called the day
Cotton fields working sweat
As I barefoot into noon
Searching for a friend
Lost in a summer sun
Daylite is closing
And the dogs are barking
Into the cover of darkness
Lost in a southern moon
So I run down this dirt road
Just to find a friend

(Slaves running north)
Slaves running north

Jean
Dennis Faulk Jan 2018
Well, tell me Jean
What will I Dream
What will you tell me
I won't be afraid
I took that train to Boston
I took the car to Florida

Well , show me Jean
What I won't dream
Will you show me
I have seen parts before
I have not seen it complete
Never got around the corner
Never found that classroom

Jean? Will you tell me
            Will you show me
Jean my dreams unfinished
Around the corner
Into a classroom

As my night fades
Will you Jean
Show me dreams
Dreams unfulfilled
Jean holds our dreams. My moms name

Into a Day
Dennis Faulk Jan 2018
Into a day break
As it takes my breath
From a rising Sun
Knowing it is the center
Knowing it is the source

Into a day awaken
As I take my breakfast
From a knowing sun
Warming my December chill
Warming my heart thrill

Now the day is full
Now the day is blue
From a full sun
Reading a book fireside
Reading my paper sleeping

Into a day break
Into a day awake
The day is freedom
From where I sit
From this sunlite life
My day is just a senior.

Whats your name
Dennis Faulk Jan 2018
So what's your name
So where you from
You seen so far away
From distance places
From places unknown
To a world above
To a life below

So what's your place
So where do you start
You been spoken of
From distance voices
To a world blinded
To a life forgotten

So what are you called
So where do you stay
You provide a quest
From distance places
For a world hoping
To a life given

So what's your name
So where you from
You see fatherhood from distance places
For a world around
To a life dreaming

So what's your name
My father, my father
What's your name?

The last day
Dennis Faulk Jan 2018
It's the last day
Could be the last meal
Know it's not the last drink
You know it's new
To make amends
To mend your life
With resolutions unfulfilled
Its the last day
Its a new day
It's just New Yeats Eve
