Finding a Purpose
Seb Stone Jun 2018
You know you aren't cool enough to pull off the look
Denim isn't complimented by a bootleg Radiohead shirt
Nor are your boots, with the fake laces and the Velcro
Really anything to brag about
But you understand
You're pretentious enough to know not to pretend otherwise

You spend your life having a staring contest with the ground
Looking up was never really your scene
Finding the right one was too much effort however
So you take things at the base level
Friends to smile to, say hi, but for the most part
Never a supportive phone call or Facebook message

But if anything I wish well for this boy
His face pocketed with the raging battle scars of acne
The clamour of Sonic Youth ringing in his ears
The scent of cigarettes soaking the insides of his fingers
I'm glad he's found a purpose
I'm glad he's found you
