A Woman in Patriarchy
SaumyaG Apr 2021
Quite often a secondary desire
She comes from another one of her kind,
Perceived frail and acquiescent
Society misconstrues her serene and tranquil self,
Yet, with her scars at every dawn
She marches on fervently.

Discarded and mistreated
Patriarchy remains nonchalant towards her despondency,
Aspirations and ambitions subdued over time
A leisure valley is all she is considered now,

Transient respect is what she gets
Ripple effects of kinships,
Objectified here, glorified at Lord’s
Mankind plays with her mind,

Species’ survival on her shoulders
Even now striving for equality,
Being vociferous still a luxury
She remains sceptical of nights and alleys,

Why is it that man suppresses her?
Is it because of his ego or maybe his inferiority complex,
Or is it because like a warrior
With her scars at every dawn
She marches on fervently.

Born without a choice
Cursing his fate
He heard the screams next door,
Wanting to mitigate the agony
He buried his face in the pillow

Promiscuity floating in air
Ambivalent towards matrimony,
He second-guessed the sacred vows,
His only confidante
The pretty lady with the white dress
His beloved aunt,

Scapegoat of the two devils
Consoling himself every day
He witnessed his skin turn red from brown,
Nonetheless, it all vanished
When his aunt brought delicacies
And embraced him in her arms,

Without a choice
His confidante left one day
Instead arrived a new lady with the same dress,
Suddenly he heard the screams in his head
Wanting to mitigate the agony
He buried his face in the pillow
*The poem is about a child in a mental asylum who keeps on replaying in his head the events that occurred at his home.*

Nudity
SaumyaG Mar 2021
Love, a word far treacherous as any
But a feeling that encapsulates every emotion out there,
A sensation inexplicable to others
Only you can comprehend it,

Vulnerability at its core
Something that we all fear,
To willingly unveil the mask that society has given you
And succumb in front of another being,

Trepidation at its every step
Betrayal looms in your mind,
What are you actually afraid of
Is it love,
Or is it the reveal of your naked soul,

Embrace it with grace
Even if sorrow ensues your love
Accept the desolation wholeheartedly,

Your anguish right now is what made you genuine in the first place.
