Nothing but a Program
By Samantha Dillon

I am a child

Programmed by society

Programmed to agree

To obey

To follow

To be silent

Programmed to become the programmer

But maybe I don’t want to be what society wishes

Maybe I don’t want to stay quiet

Maybe I want to be listened to

I know I’m not an adult

I know I have so many more experiences to come

But that doesn’t mean I don’t have ideas

That doesn’t mean I’m completely oblivious to the events happening in this world

Do you really expect me to leave the fate of the world I must live in as an adult up to present adults and present adults only?

I have ideas, we have ideas

And when you finally throw away your pride to listen to our small children voices

You’ll hear something more than a carefree child

You’ll hear a person

An adolescent with ideas better than some adults!

So listen to me

Listen to these programs

Listen to these ones and zeros that will no longer be unnoticed

Reprogram yourself and open your eyes.
