that the demons I tried to outrun,
have a heartbeat and
carry my name.

Perhaps it were the words that you once labeled me with
that broke the soul in this mirror of mine.
What once reflected light now casts it away,
and all that’s left of my resemblance are the tiny shards
that crumbled off the mirror
now gazing at the after image I used to be.

Sit with me in silence
and embrace me
as I hum the bitterness to sleep.
For once maybe,
the quiet won’t hit us as hard.
So let us take this moment
to savor a humble peace
that too resides within us.

yet suffocated by this crowd
of inhuman masked creatures
who break themselves to stand tall.
Yet here I am,
with a mind that screams too loud
and a soul that sees through all.
