what is this
Jean Feb 2019
What is this uncertainty
Lingering above my head
Threatening to explode
And release a cloud of dark.

How is this uncertainty
The unknown so familiar to me
Welcoming it like as it settles in
Embracing it as it covers me

Why does it insist to stay
Why can't I drive it away
It has dug it's root
Deep inside, feeding and growing

The Crabs
Jean Nov 2018
On top, crawling up.
Higher, as high they go.
Trying to escape the bucket they're at.
Piling up, climbing some more.

Pulling down, low like us.
You've no right to be higher than us.
Let's wait and see, die all at once.
Let's sit tight instead of being free.
Society's crab mentality. Jealousy and envy is the norm in some culture.

Flesh to what?
Jean Nov 2018
What's the beginning what's the end.
Where do I start, when does it end.
Flesh to dirt, or was it ash?

What's the matter, young human.
Don't you know where to stand?
What's the matter, little fish.
Why are you against the flow?

Will you march, and hurry up.
Up the ladder down to dirt,or was it ash?

ABCDE
Jean Nov 2018
A clear path,
Breathe fast,
Caring heart,
Distinguished mind,
Entwined fingers,
I am alive.

The one
Jean Nov 2018
The stranger who touched my heart.
The one who made it hard.
The one who questioned what, questioned why.
The one who poked and probed until she knew.
The one who held a stranger's hand, gentle and tight.
The one who reassured with a stern look and determined face.
The compassionate one with a golden heart.
An observation in a non creepy way

Flaming Eyebrows
Jean Nov 2018
I looked closely at my notes,
My head bent lower straining muscles in my nape,
Consentrated on the words,
Distracted from the world,
I felt the heat,
The candle flame,
Goodbye eyebrows,
So long my friends.
"Magsunog ng kilay." An old Filipino saying, which my mom reminded me as I complained about studying.
