When you are consumed by darkness,
And you fall into a bottomless abyss,
With the water filling your lungs,
And feeling the Devil's kiss.

When you forget the feeling of love,
And you walk a hollowed man,
With your hands soaked with blood,
And when you think this is the plan.

When you let it begin to shape you,
And purge the light from within,
With poison in your system,
And you wonder what could’ve been.

When you feel broken and defeated,
And the demons taking hold,
With the infestation creeping in,
And the end of your story told.

When you feel a hand on your shoulder,
And are ready to feel Death's embrace,
So you turn around to greet him,
But you see a friend's face.

In every step I took,
I did so thinking I was alone,
Never had I been more wrong,
As I have already reaped what I have sewn.

You helped me climb out of the pit,
And breathe light into my life,
With the red removed from my ledger,
And my hand free of a knife.

You helped me see who I am,
The light, the dark and all that's in between,
Helped me make my peace with it,
And stopped what could have been.

You helped me see a future,
A person I'd be proud to be,
I will attempt to strive to be my best,
And become a person you're proud to see.
