Your voice echos in my memory
Haunting and maturing
Into even crazier nightmares
You hang over me like a willow
And I’m a child sleeping beneath the stars
Nurtured and trapped
I hear you calling me
Like rain, you crash into the earth
Like a Hurricane
You dismantle my every foundation
And your storm presents a cataclysm
The leaves rustling shyly over my heart
When it’s all over
And it may have never been real
And maybe
you were a dream all along
You came to steal my reality.

I’ve always been wandering
In circular sadness
J Onyx May 5
You glided to your darkness
Of which you cling
With great reverie
That which also allowed you to appear
A living specter
Singing dark music to my ears
How alien to hear
The tragic song of calculated pain
A manufactured silence
Ensued with your grace
And you left me
To move on to many another place
Can’t remember the lines of your face
But I can still feel your shadow
Clinging to my gradual destruction
Which direction do you move now?
And you may have been something of
A storm cloud
Pelting rain under my eyes
I let you move on to your next venue
Thunder whispering your lies
From the heavens you fell from

Little good
it does you
To love an empty chair
To drink your morning coffee
With only the curling vapor
To wrap mysteries around your loneliness
Your hand that’s filled with the lively fingers
Of a rapturous ghost
Feels nothing but despair
What love can exist
In a precarious memory
Teetering on the precipice
Of yesterday and today
Little good it does you
To fall in love with air

The problem tends to be that
your heart doesn’t seem to care.

How silly it is to love
To expose your body
Naked
Writhing and thrashing
On the edge of swords
Seeking escape from the pinions
The freedom
You had all along
But the trap
You coveted
Drawing it closer into you
Until the pain becomes a friend
Never desiring
For the torture to end

Live a life in black and white-
It will make you long for color
a lost lover
The tail of a peacock flourishing the air
like the smoke of a clove cigarette
a longed for embrace
Another ceremony of storm wind
dancing spectrums into view
Under cover, your colorless eyes
sparkling with hope
“I love you too”
And when the lights have all gone out
Another darkness subsumes
Your loss of vibrancy
Teetering on evergreen feathers
Has driven you to dream

Somehow
I would know of your touch
By any hand
It’s a slight of fingers
So quickly grazed
In a daze
I recognize the
Intangible
I cannot see anything
With your hands over
my eyes
And your hands are cold
Pulsating with a feeling
We both haven’t forgotten
But, I see everything
The truth showing through
All of the volumes of your lies

A tender confinement
Like winter branches strewn across
a summer memory of bloom
Withering deeply in reality
Lightly growing in memory of June
Freedom-
Hope springs
As the seasons move
The frost of solitude
Transforming in the quietude
of the robust embrace
the promise of change.

I have fallen from grace
What oppression I face
One man
Would kick me when I am down
And when I am drown
By his violent opinions of self importance
I have time
To contemplate
Any one persons relevancy
In the grand scheme
Of gravity
I fall beautifully.

I saw someone I thought was you
Creeping from the crevices of yesterday
Navy cap over your hair
Quietly walking into a store
I am certain you never existed
Disappearing like a bad magic trick…

I guess I held on to a fantasy
And I kissed a dream
All I actually saw
was a specter tonight and
He was a really
pretty ghost
As dark as the moonlight

I laid in suspension of your breath
Like the Golden Gate bridge in the night
Traffic gliding across softly like a whispered promise
Lights lustrous as silver and gold
listening to the music of perpetual business
Then there was silence
And
My empty room
Just me
and endless miles traveled
To end up nowhere again
J Onyx Sep 2024
I looked at my old window
Slathered in sun
Remembering the ice
Swimming across the glass
In days long gone
The sound of your voice
A gentle whisper
Like the winter wind
Roaring as fire
Now drowning in memory
And patient desire
Melting
