A quest for Joy
Martha Nov 2020
I went to look for joy
And spiraled down a rabbit hole
Suspended I stood upon a bridge
Between brimmed abundance
And the barely there

I submerged like a swampy raft
Gasping for air in the turbid water
I passed out but came back to my senses

And there they were...
In the beginnings of a smile in tear filled eyes
In murky footprints of a shoeless child
In wrinkled laughter of an aged sage
In the resonating quote on a yellowed page.
In the rustling breeze of a balmy day
In withered dandelions out at play
In losing myself in warm summer nights
In wispy sparkles of firefly lights
And then I delved deep into my soul
In breaths inhaled and exhaled whole
In living and learning and there I found
A fleeting thing called joy and felt profound

Don’t let me go
Martha Nov 2020
Tell me about your darkest corners
Where  creatures gnaw and reign
Known yet unrecognizable,
Untamable and vain
Seeking revenge on tired lumens of hope

You tried to expunge the surge
But they are now your’s to withhold

For now, just Leave your slippers aside
Feel the cold earth with your callused soles
Dance with me
Let me caress those bruised edges of your heart, That’s been sanded down
To a shape that’s too far from yours.

Entwine my demons with yours
Let us sway to the blues
Just hold on
Don’t let me go.

A lethal loop
Martha Nov 2020
The crystal chandelier is now protected
Under the dust of ambiguity
‘Neath its faint light shone arcane
Words, cocooned with esoteric verbiage
Laid on a pale old parchment
a poignant ballad of love, hate,
Illusions and fate.

Through the silken Cobwebs
The jocund rays sieved through,
On softer mornings
A catalyst to a half broken smile,
dancing with frail hopeful eyes
Seeking lost answers
Between the broken lines
Of
Love wrapped
In delicate angelic chants ,
And love mutilated by demonic rants
A mind plagued
A toxic waste
Audaciously rattled
But the answers were never lost
They never existed...
Thus never to be found.

An ode to a fallen leaf
Martha Nov 2020
Blazing autumn leaves, basking in shades
of flaming orange and reds
In ebullience you move
towards your own doom
To kiss death on nature’s bed
You land as gently as you can
on the wings of the zephyr
Your body now broken,yet
You whisper in feeble hums
Adios,my love;
And you break and erode
to nurture the dust..
And give your self away.

And yonder I look
Askance I stare and wonder
Can death be truly beautiful?
Thou, leaf of maple..
in beauty undefined,
With “poignant-panache”
you showed me,
It sure can be divine.

Home afar.
Martha Dec 2020
The caliginosity of the cold air
Kissed her caramel skin
And yonder she looked
With a sigh
Greeted by the alacrity of the twinkling lights
Spreading holiday cheer
A glimmer of hope
Lacking in the ruthless world...
Her experienced fingers had lost touch
And now all she carried with her
Was an anathema around her neck
Encased in a cold gold locket
She felt she couldn’t  maneuver around it
Her trembling hands, were frail
In pain, her soft lips cracked and bled
From the everlasting winter chill
But a flicker of fire
An abstruse desire
Kept her going
She knew deep within her paper thin heart
He was meant for her
And hurdles she’d cross till she bled
To be with the only man
Her organic hope
An archetypical home
That was meant for both.
