Common Ground
Who decides right from wrong
Sometimes the line is so fine
You can’t see both shadows and light?
Why do we have to be so far to one side
Creating a distance where we can each hide
Regurgitating words without taking a breath
Speaking on death, and definitions of life
Heaving on sighs, the nazis and woke
Spewing our spittle until we both choke
Look with your eyes, who’s truly in danger
The people you hurt aren’t always a stranger

I was born to be his mother
I squeeze him tight
Always the last to let go
I show him how to hold a hand
How feelings also make a man

I was born to be his mother
I wipe his nose
Look him deep in his eyes
I teach him words and how to stand
He teaches back, I make sure he knows he can

I was born to be his mother
I turn the sound down so he can hear
I make the lights bright so he can feel warmth
We play in puddles and build with sand
I thought he’d walk, but then he ran

Coffee and Cigarettes
Leora Llewyn Nov 5
Coffee brings the morning and
ashtrays hold the night before
I’ve thought about this for so long
I think I won’t think anymore

I brought you here to talk about it
But you’re still leaning on the door
I’ll smoke another cigarette
And leave the ashes on the floor

I’m chasing shadows
That can never be caught
You’re hanging in gallows
Hoping life can be bought
Maybe if you never look my way
We’ll never know it’s not enough

Your eyes are shining as you stare directly at the sun:
I just want to feel something
I don’t feel pain so why should I stop
Your voice is too far away for me to listen
I didn’t mean to make you cry
I’ll look at you
I’m trying to say your name but nothing comes out
“Mm.. mm..” can’t you hear me?
Why do you look so sad?
I’m sorry…I’ll be better
I’ll hug you until I can feel my arms, and stomach, and mouth
I want to say “I love you” so I pat your back and squeeze your arm

Bookworm

I’ve been reading about you
The protagonist in all my novels
The booming laugh
The mischievous smirk
The heartthrob that sometimes plays a ****
The desire of every woman on earth
I pretend for awhile that I’m your heroine
Knowing it will stop at the book’s end
So I read another book
Or two
Or three
If I just keep on reading I won’t have to set you free
I’ll just keep reading…
It’s you and me…
