Mr. Police officer
I was five
you were a crown jewel in my eye
you kept me safe from the shadows that walked by
you were my hero
flew higher than superman in the sky.
I had little handcuffs in my pockets
to catch the culprits
trying to steal my momma’s prize
but now all I see is the pain,
suffering and sadness
you put in others' lives,
what happened?
Mr. police officer
now I'm talking to you
in this interrogation room, but oh no Mr. Officer
you’re not the one interrogating me
now it's my turn.
It's my turn to ask you the questions and you can’t plead the 5th
why are you killing my brothers of color
with your evil fist,
standing on their necks till they're gasping for breath,
not one constitutional law in your head.
Please Don’t **** me
I have things I want to see
I know you could with a snap of a finger
people would believe you with the badge on your chest,
they will say “Oh she was evil
she deserves her arrest
throw her in jail
don’t let her get us next”.
On TV you're a hero,
a blessing,
but if I popped on channel 8
I'm a black girl
with crazy hair and irrelevant messages.
But Mr. Officer,
look in my eyes,
what would you do if your daughters were gunned down by some guy?
It hurts seeing little kids on the news losing their lives because of some dude sitting in this chair with a badge on his chest, why?
Because we have dark skin and dark eyes why? Because I am color. We all bleed the same color, but you can't see you have been blinded and now you can't see the melantied goddess we've become we are so unique, when the sun hits our skin we are gold, when the walk down the street we are bold but in your eyes we are criminals why, because we are color.
