A Step Back
Joseph Riley Sep 2017
Have you heard a good story
that's starts to warn you?
Don't let an object
under your nails.
There'll always be enough
ropes to tie you down,
'til you only want to hear it
some other time.

Drunk forever
in eminent trouble.
A low resting heart
for another's comfort.
An audience to know
what words to speak.
A trip to reference:
"Nova Scotia".

What lines the moving parts
for now?
What gets it all
for a younger year?
Fall apart and
you'll know it's true.
Try and remember
what gets us together.

DACA Days
Joseph Riley Sep 2017
The time's the time
And Facebook was there
when no one else was.
And Facebook's an online
social media platform, for every person in the far off future,
where Facebook is screaming
to be lite by the sun directly.
And the still, small voice was always there.
McDonalds means a good
solid attempt.  Sturdy bridges.
I saw a Richter at the museum
and I wanted to spread it.
Thanks to alcohol,
I've never seen problems.
Thanks to curiosity,
I'll always judge the past.
The good, solid attempt
to continue without signature
isn't anything when you're alone.
An immigrant,
wanted by the immigrant's faith,
stares wide eyed at eyes tired of light,
wondering what the **** it takes
to make a patriot want for anything more.

Times Galore
Joseph Riley Aug 2017
Love comes to you
when you want it.
It's a crying shame
I shall not want.
There's a rough skin
past my first offer,
in hopes of healing
for everyones sake.

First comes love,
then comes want.
The past lives fluid
between the two.
First I was silent
then I was lurid.
Everyone knows
the ending too well.
