The Gift
Jacob Porter Aug 2017
Humanity a gift greater than our own understanding
A fully functioning gift for the soul to inhabit
A brain to obtain knowledge and wisdom -- adding to creation
Hands to build and to write
Eyes to envision and read
Legs to take you wherever this world has to offer
The ability to create endless possibilities
This, is the gift of humanity

Past, present, future
Jacob Porter Jul 2017
Live in the moments where the present is all that matters
Cherish the memories as they become history
Don't ever forget present actions affect the future
Avoid being tangled in what you can't control
Lust in the moment enjoy it like it won't ever end
And when it does you'll be glad you put in the effort
As I write from my past to further my present
Which always means more mystery in the future

Rock Bottom
Jacob Porter Jul 2017
It wasn't until rock bottom
I learned to grow into a better man
I learned to love others more than before
Including myself with a vision for the future
It wasn't until rock bottom
I realized the beauty in my struggles
I realized everyone has there own battles
Finally I began to understand
It wasn't until rock bottom
Foundation grew from my fall
I learned to stand on my own 6 feet tall
Here I am from every valley to my highest peak
It wasn't until rock bottom

It's yours if you'd like
Jacob Porter Jun 2017
I miss the sea breeze over the bright white sand
Or maybe it's yellow, some things depend on perspective
Other depends on the comma or how you end the sentence
A fight or a hug could be based on how you pronounce
These words or these feelings do they scream or shout
Be triggered by behavior or see your the real player
Controller of all you feel inside
Always you've been the rider
That's why I miss the sea breeze
And the ocean water below

Rain drops
Jacob Porter Jun 2017
I'm not sure if it's the rain
Or maybe the gloomy weather
As the cold drops hit my head
Chills overcome my nerves and euphoria makes its way
As my thoughts slow and the thunder roars
This is what I live for, as the water caressed me
And I felt like never before

She Didn't Realize
Jacob Porter Apr 2017
As i woke that morning, i just didn't know
This morning god brought me an angel, although i'm not sure what for
I'd say she was in her mid forties maybe about five foot four
She seemed rush but spoke with elegance and poise
The type of person who always seems to have something to say
To this day, ill remember you like an angel
Her spirit moved me, and blessed my day
she spoke of Spain, France, Ireland and rome
Hostels she stayed and friends she made
a traveler with dreams and stories from so far away
these stories she told me brightened my day
and everyone there after felt kinder in every way
my self included i spoke with kindness in the words i say
to you my dear thank you
My angel you shed light on my day with a spirit bolder than her appearance.

To whom it may concern
Jacob Porter Apr 2017
I wrote letters in a bottle
Some were hard pills to swallow
Memories left from a man once hollow
Lessons, I really hope you learn from tomorrow
If you don't repeat history, you can avoid that sorrow
Respect your lover and love her like no other
When you're alone her smile can carry you through the weather
Don't forget your best friend, life's better together
A man and a woman may be the best companion for this life forever

The Learning Stranger
Jacob Porter Apr 2017
Standing as a bonafide as a greeter
Bright smiles and somber looks
People of all cultures and appearances
They arrive at there own paces with various sizes of families
Two females middle aged spending a casual day shoe shopping
Some care to converse while others prefer i leave them alone
Another day in the life at my nine to five
Some days are bland consisting of rude voices and penchant for being difficult
Others are bright with conversation and i marvel at all the precious information
The words kiss my ears with knowledgeable sensations
Call me insane but strangers are everything
New perspectives all unbiased by their lack of knowledge of me
To them i'm the cashier at the shoe store
To me there my ticket to greater wisdom and experience
Vicariously living through them
Searching for endless stories and helpful hints
