Old World Blues
J R Lozano Jun 9
Lilac and lily’s
Encroaching on the city
Moss and leaves
Spreading beyond the trees
Rain and rivers
Sprouting hills like blisters
And in the center
Came a rose
With room to grow
A lack of competition I suppose
Then fell the snow
Finally thorns began to show

There’s something special about you

Or something is wrong with me

If I could explain

If I could convey

But there are no words

For the powers that be

Which are at play

Maybe it’s destiny

Psychotic ecstasy

Possibly

I fell in love

Cupids bell rung

Likely it was a shove

And from the coo-coo’s nest

I was flung

Persephone (Solitude)
J R Lozano Jun 7
Avast yee and take heed
Whence she walked autumn once fell
A modern year Persephone
As far as you or I could tell

She smelled of pomegranates
And took the spring for granted
Behind her step clouds did gather
Turning the sky volcanic

Adorned with golden leaves
Her skin a perpetual pink
Never would thine and summer
Be fated a length-full meet

Persephone’s on the garden path
Walking beat for beat
All the reflections upon the pond
To be trampled at her feet

On the ‘morrow she takes her leave
And if she cracks a smile
There would be not to believe
On the solitary mile

The Spirit of Salem

I can show you wondrous things;
Illuminated diamonds and rings.

The trees and the earth,
Colors not yet seen.
Chambers of gold,
Trinkets of gold

Want a story?
I’ve got dozens!
Unraveling all the sudden. . .

Write this down.
Keep it safe.
In this shrouded place:

“Like a million eons
  Suddenly came upon

A fault in the cranium
As Rare as titanium

A common nature
I must savor
Birthing it to life
Then carving with a knife”

Is this why the caged bird sings?
