I have a very special spotted rock,
It’s oval shaped and smooth all around,
My solemate found it on Elba at a home on a bluff,
She gave it to me with a smile to keep safe,
I carefully carried it across the Atlantic in my pocket,
It was so precious I never let it out of my sight,
Then one day I lost it during a pandemic,
When it slipped through a hole in my pocket,
The special spotted rock was no where to be found,
I looked for it relentlessly but it was lost for eternity,
The love of my life then slowly retreated away,
The twinkle in her brown eyes when she saw me faded,
She no longer radiated love or affection in my direction,
She has since drifted far away, into another man’s arms.

Hello old friend
It’s nice to see you again
Time seems to change everything
People, places, things
but my fond memory of our childhood
hasn't changed a bit.

So many years since that time and place
my friend
We have walked our separate paths
and meandered through time
without ever crossing paths again

It’s been too many years, my friend
the storms of life have come and gone
The memories are there
though the elements erode them so

Nevertheless I have a few remaining scattered memories of you in my old and fading mind
My memories recount that you are
one of those sincere few who walk amongst us
radiating compassion, sincerity, kindness
and positive energy

For that influence I want to sincerely thank you
for all the years your actions have touched me
helping me to discover who I wish to be

Moving away from My heart

As you fly eastward away from my heart I see that
you've got New England landscapes in your dreams  
and wanderlust in your soul.

But I've got maps of Cape Cod on my phone and gypsy in my blood.

So let's blow this clam bake and get out of this life.
As we have people to see and things to do.

Back to my remote boarding school.

A seed of love was planted.

A glow of light that I spied from afar,
shimmering and floating on waves like a star.
A flickering light as if weary from strain,
remained steady, only waiting to be found again.

An unlikely explorer, I was lost in a brume
of living a life of roles I'd assumed.
In search of what would give meaning to my whole,
to a life that became untethered to its soul.

My rowing now purposeful, I decided to go
to this light I saw emanating from depths below.
As my eyes met the water through waves and brume,
the light took form, a shape it assumed.

With wonder and joy, I peered over my oar,
it was a heart of gold on the ocean floor!
So solid and pure, this wondrous find,
I dived in to the ocean and now it is mine.

This beautiful heart that lay deep in the clay,
Its light, it gets brighter with each passing day.
For the care and nurturing of this heart of gold
Is the binding that tethers my life to my soul.

The awaited moment!
An empty beach but for the desire of marrying nature with nature,
unrestricted, unconfined, sure.

Cold water screams, laughter abounds,
the thrill encapsulated by such sounds.
Nature on nature, no separating thing,
Like love on love that has taken wing.

I knew a boy
once in a dream,
shy and lanky
was all that he seemed.

But what from afar
was known as appeared,
When he approached
All lines disappeared.

For eyes were not the needed tool
as the lines blurred to the words he said.
To know this boy was to listen and feel -
his heart was the chisel to the thoughts in his head!

And the secret that
once in a dream
was learned,
I kept hidden til needed
when then
'twas confirmed.

The love it was to be,
That apple picked from the first tree.
So tempting it was
But not for yet.
The fruit will ripen as sun will set
Upon our love

In that moment on a hill

To listen, to share
To inquire, to care.

A lonely girl, her emotions bared,
You approached and were not scared

From the common herd,

Mediocre and ordinary, you cannot say,

For a simple gesture or to take up a sword,

In the storm of life, my dear,
we are thrown about.
Many times we pass too near
and so we doubt
what is secure,
to hold for life
we pass, unsure.

Suddenly, we find ourselves adrift, alone,
the ship now gone.
Struggling to reach the shore,
familiar ground,
to fear no more.

The storm is long, the night is cold,
And then, a warm hand grabs hold.
And though too near, we had passed it by,
Its sturdy bow with oars held high,
It was with us all along you see,
For our life boat is your love for me.

I feel you calling me to cross the sea,
As my heart splashes upon the bow with torrential motion,
Tacking back and forth from port to starboard.

After leaving safe harbor and being drawn across the ocean,
It is clear my heart will never be returned to me.

You are the constellations in the Montana sky,
You are the turquoise colored waves on the Philippine Sea,
You are the warmth of a jacuzzi on a cold Siberian night.

You are more intelligent than an 18th century Oxford scholar,
You are more sensual than a ravishing centerfold,
You are more refreshing than a cool breeze on a hot summer night,
You are more tantalizing than the most delicious entree on a Roman emperor's menu.
