… between …
Ivai Sep 3
… spirit and flesh …
… light and darkness …
… the moment before you come …
Is the promise of a new life.
It’s there - but will you take it?

The Tower
Ivai 5h
Our dreams, not all came true.
She holds my hand, to take me to the tower.
There she speaks a language of our own.
Seven lifetimes she’s been my wife -
Seven more anew.

Miles Ago
Ivai Aug 10
How oddly shaped you are -
Drifting into my orbit with promises of May.
I harbour a belief that I’m desired.
A false notion born out of need.
As you hold his arm, parts of me disappear.
I am the spaceman;
You are a star that died years before;
But still shines on in the dark sky above.
I lost my own self, miles and miles ago.

Come what may, you won’t change -
But only grow old as I did in a different age.
Trees tower, time conquerors.
A long sleep beckons us my love, this is true.
Even the Nile at its end must meet the blue sea.
How do these last days go for you?
Our lives, heavier with memories of every kind -
Sway above us on a single strained chain.
We lost each other, miles and miles ago.

Your clothes on the floor, you, naked -
Your imperfect flesh given to another.
Acres of empty where once was a compass.
No mercy exists in these times for a man like me.
With weary heart, coursing with nervous blood;
A silent fog wraps its arms around me.
No stranger to its confusion, I enter its thrall.
I begin to see messages you never sent.
Come with us, we have miles and miles to go.

To the tower I return.
I see him, a man full of fear, rage and doubt.
The child next to him lost, never to be found.
With yellow teeth, the man declares a solution.
I can’t, is my only reply in disagreement.
Then it falls onto the child, he says.
The truest that I can say, is for all days remaining;
Never have I owned myself for as long ago;
As memories began, miles and miles ago.

I look for coins to place on my own eyes.
It’s late now, but that I know.
When I was a child, my horoscope was hidden.
The soothsayer, he held my chin -
Should he have gripped my throat tight?
He whispered a prophesy instead -
All was said in a language I didn’t understand.
There was a darkness born with me - my twin.
It swallowed my life - and finally my beloved.
Deeds were done - by me, to me, unto others.
My torment in the form of boat man comes.
Cold water ripples spread past, present, future.
Like all things, it was writ large at the start.

The only sound you hear is the sea.
She hears the sounds of the ages from the shore.
You may see the moon.
She sees generations past, shining above.
In the mirror you see yourself, you hear a man.
She sees and hears …

all but him
Ivai Sep 15
With summer’s end, part of him died.
With what remains, he watches the fall.
As darkness and cold become the days -
He stays inside her for longer.
In the aftermath of warmth their passion creates.
The snow begins, falling silently, unlike rain.
The winter sky always claims the sun.
A heroic heart stops beating -
So ends a great adventure.
All but him will remember when he returns.

Death, of a kind
Ivai Oct 21
The dead are not ghosts.

Those who live as ghosts -

- are the true dead.
