Dear romance, you wet stinky thing you.
I see you now and again
walking down the street following a gaggle of girls.
Their faces
Shiny with stories of boys, boys who will endure you for the sake of 2nd base.
In turn you are followed.
Followed by wistful sighs, aged people, young enough to remember, but too worn to feel your spark.
Oh, dearest romance,
I knew you once
When I gave you up through a pen,
a fearless handwritten love note stuffed with anxiety into a locker.
There was no sleepover that ended where I didn't feel exuberant in your possibilities.
But, my dear old friend
You have let yourself go
You are lost in your hallmark bygone era, a drone to some great marketing machine
Your impossible implications are dated and give way to dangerous expectations.
I implore you, Romance, let go of your ridged standards
Flowers? Chocolates? When has a presentation of affection ever been so limited?
Yes, you have sold out
And now, with your pockets full and that yacht all gassed up
You leave us, your adoring friends, adrift in an ocean of pretexts and false ideology

I'd love to have my eyes sewn shut

Hide behind my lids

Lay my face on a pillow case

wait for life to begin

I'll eat my clock

to digest time

& wash it down with guilt

Tonight I danced with strangers in the rain,

provoking even demons to dream.

Dream of silence.

Dream of dreams we've dreamt away.

I am buried beneath technology
where a lighted screen is telling me
how to dream and who to be.
It's severing my heartstrings
and numbing my daydreams
the type of connection
and affection
I never knew I needed.
Would not be without
could not live without
The relationship no one warned me about.
And now, here I sit, idle and alone
surround by friends I've never met
or hardly know
I read of tragedies that don't affect me
they are overseas
and out of reach.
Bradbury was right
oh, how these parlors delight
When did we all lose sight?
That those are our dreams to dream
unseen
by these lighted screens.

Untraceable interactions leave impressions so impactful
You’re rocked back by the blast, ground zero
Are you really realizing the reality you’re comprising?
These delectable dangers taste sweet on his fingers
Confident careful hands crafting curious relations
A life lived that isn’t wasted, embrace it.

A break before a fall before the landing on two feet.
Where life and the real world meet.
Collision course corrected.
You're electric with momentum.
A crashed constellation of stardust.
Misbehaviors your savior.
This time it's not a bust.
This time it's in you you should trust.

With the window down through the desert we drift
The radio's on and my spirits in fits
I eat your words that ride the wind
Take hold the road grab hold this sin
I tear at the vinyl where here we sit
Drive from this madness before we get bit
Suns snaps like a viper and heats up the sky
Times on the loose and fears in the eye

Awake and thirsty
So thirsty my tongue goes out on its own in search of the oasis
the basin
my sink.
Full of dishes laminated with food
The faint odor of, is that dog or food or me?
I can barely see.
My eyes hurt, my head hurts and something else within hurts.
Water alone cannot quench a thirst like this
A hole I built with my bare hands
Cigarette conversations waft from my hair, their smokey words faint and familiar
What did I say? What didn't I say? What can I say now?
I drank too much
Needed too much
I felt alone among dozens and alive to myself.
Bottom shelf
What a bad idea.
I can still feel those well worn tables tapped by fingers reinventing themselves.
Buoyant ideas too big for small spaces
and small minds.
I can almost taste the salt in the air, bodies in motion, tangy sweet.
Lose yourself in low lights and laughter, afloat on madness.
A place where late and early are the same.
My mind is fogged in, a great lighthouse within keeps me wondering what lies on the shore.
What happy insanity did I witness?
A pause.
Still nothing.

Oh, wide eyes, why do you pry inside
trying to **** the lie that sustains me
            refrains me.
Here no echoes dredge these walls
      leaving the empty eager
            and disfigured
Watch me, watch myself, watching life around me
avoiding a life lived in anger
            by a stranger

Come a little closer
‘Till your sitting next to me
‘Till you see my coffee stained fingers
and the look of disparity
My hair is on fire my throat oh so dry
Come sit a little closer
Let this time pass us by
See those windows nailed closed
The locks rusted through
The bones are in the attic
And the rats are in the shoes
Come lean a little closer
‘Till your anxieties overflow
‘Till the time you had has gone away
And those you've love must go
Come lie down upon this bed
and let us not regret
All wasted days and a wasted life
And nothing to forget

Hands shake with a fever to go. Anticipation
and melodramatic resolutions to solve these
                                                                          crimes.
Ready for that stage,
         big
           black curtains &
                       last calls.
Climb that rope and fade the limelight. For those hands of
                               impatience
                                          feast
on caffeinated thoughts & the decadence
                                                      of  delirium.
Candy coated fortunes bronzed with silly color play-doh.
No one knows
               where they are going,
                             but look at them go!
Tremble with the tension through studied glances.
                                     What says I love you
                                              more than distant by-ways &
                              cornices of ice?
Who will be there when the sun dips to the sea?
               Someone
to grab those nervous little hands & bring that old
                               guitar
                                      into tune by
                                           spoon
                                                 tapped melodies.
Prophecies &
            promises but no pay day
                        today.
Clapping hands sound their march. A salute to all those
                     dusty
                          dreams in
                                   locked boxes.

This unforgiving life is living me raw
It's given me hope and then taken it all
I've loved here and hated here, but have broken few laws
Got a well deserved beating in spite of my flaws
Gained confidences and lost conflicts and for this I applaud
A life finally balanced just as the last day draws.
Here is where I found the Devil and where I lost God.

What keeps you awake at night, when you're tired and salivating for rest? When your mind regards insatiable dreams like strangers. No tired eye can pry away to slumber when theres so much to wonder and discover late at night. The world is quiet in its exquisite silence, a timid lover with calloused hands.
Chelsea Gonzo Dec 2014
Your skin, old bark, smells of dust and time.
Faraway eyes focus, tiny camera lenses searching for clarity.
An absolute existence like mist, soft and heavy, light and cool.
Overpass passes overhead, others scurry by, no notice.
You were loved once, and once loved, tender baby with possibilities.
What fork in the road ate you up and spit you out?
Patterns and roadways etch your face, a great map of life.
You bleed, a blood of society, of addiction and affliction.
You are no saint, your wings melted when you went too far
Choices and chances, circumstance, **** happens.
Some day eyes will open and see you.
They will notice and they will understand you.

Gently lay my head down slow
Upon the ruffled sheet
Softly close my eyes of wide
Oh how breathlessly I sleep

Faintly talk into my ear
Tell me your deepest fears
Strongly pull my body up
'Till I’m lying in your tears

Eagerly caress my hand
Kissing the pale palm
Happily you stroke my face
From midnight to dusky dawn

Quietly you leave the room
Out through the window wide
Limply I lay so silent
All in you I did confide
Chelsea Gonzo Dec 2022
You are made of a million moments,
atoms of distant stars and absolute energy.
You exploded into this life and you will implode out of it,
filling the empty spaces around you, heavy matter that
                          mattered only to you
                                               You are stardust
Chelsea Gonzo Feb 2014
Gentle judgy eyebrows, hold up that cautious brow
Span the spacious distance from  furrow to crown
Eyes of distant pewter pour
Over days of yesterday yor undercovers and desperate for....
Skin still young and sunlight starved, crinkle under laugh and yawn
Your beard a thing, a glory born, bushy brindles lightly shorn
Happy are the lips of one, who I fondly call S Dub
Chelsea Gonzo Dec 2022
A blink and you missed it
A moment so specific
A dip in the deep end
Didn’t just get our feet wet
Wanted it…
Regretted it?
Loved it!
But let’s not forget...
You make the bed you sleep in
Chelsea Gonzo Dec 2013
A mind of texture and color
         stutters
         stumbles
         and falls
It's full of maddening gibberish
         raging hopelessness
         and close calls
A soul with wanting
         with caring
         that isn't worth sharing
         dies with its cause
A scream from the unconsciousness
          tried to stop all this
          failed
          and lost its job.

— The End —
