To know what love is.
Andrew Player Dec 2018
As each day goes by
As each hour passes
You can still remember
What you wanted to be
Who you wanted to be
Looking in the mirror
You see a face, a face
You do not recognise
An overpainted face
A face with years ingrained
Covering the face, the face
You think you remember.
The tides of life have
Ebbed and flowed,
Love has shown her face
Touched your heart
Oh and then departed.
You take another drink
The bottles empties
Midnight approaches
Another day is almost over.
It’s almost over but then
But then you slip into dreams
Into dreams of love
Even now, yes even now
To have your heart fly again
To share a life completely
Oh to know what love is.
Andrew Player Nov 2018
Many a road had he travelled many a mountain climbed.
Many battles fought; though bloodied and broken he survived
Storms raged across the land, dark clouds hung heavy in the sky.
It was the time of darkness the time of fear
Fleeshes large as a hand fell cold and icy on his face
The suthering wind hunted through the great forests
No comfort could he find no welcoming door was open to him
Weary was he and alone but still he journeyed, forever in hope.
For what else could he do, it was the nature of his being, a grail held soul
Oh how he longed for a ****** blue sky, for the warmth of the golden sun
For a clear night; a shining moon in the firmament and stars like diamonds
With an aching heart for ever onward he journeyed; a never ending quest
Suddenly without warning the golden treasure was within his reach
From the time before; a Lady of grace of beauty beyond measure,
Light and laughter filled his world, filled his heart to overflowing.
He was again alive in the world, breathing now a fresher air
And falling oh yes falling, drowning in the blue green sea of her eyes
Yet soon did he come to know she would never be his to hold, to know
Never to feel the softest brush of her lips on his, nor the beat of hearts together
Kindness and a gentle touch, a loving friendship she would bestow on him
Which he accepted gladly but knowing never would he feel his love returned.
Yet he would love her for all that, for she had heard and understood his sorrow
Her bright smile and tender words had soothed the pain from his heart
And light again returned to his life, when first he saw the fair Elaine.

So comes the tide
Andrew Player Nov 2018
So comes the tide
Again
Pushing back the river
So fast it comes
Again
Racing across the sands
So smooth and oily-slick
Again
******* down the ore-stones
So relentless
Again
Driven on by the moon
And so goes the half day
Again
Twelve hours or so in going
And so the earth stained water
Again
Floods through the channel
And so will it be
Again
Until the top of tide
And so will come the ebbing
Again
Waters racing back to the deep
Forever wheeling Spring and Neap
Forever turning moon and sun
Forever till time is done.

Steve’s conquest.
Andrew Player Nov 2018
So Steve Norman is dead
But he worked his head
Of, for others it’s said.
He didn’t look to himself,
People said.
He didn’t have much
But he had respect
Because he could connect
And he would always stand
Up for right and demand
That the lonely and lost
Are not some marginal cost
To a society that’s lost
The compassion and heart
For those on the edge and apart
He didn’t play no bit part.
He was the lead they say
Not afraid of some verbal affray
With the suits that are grey.
Belligerent and cranky
And difficult frankly
But stood no hanky panky
No messing about
By any snot nosed sprout.
He would bawl them out
If he thought them unfair
To people needing care,
They’d be ****** aware
That Steve Norman was there.
