Today the Sphinx left the desert
After he sent me questions
w/out words or form
that made me feel betrayed & sworn.
I mourn the persistence of words.
Who called these lines
To chant a ****** song? —
Dreams assemble in Parthenons
Words resemble vagabonds
Lost in the scrambling cheap street
Wisdom of fishheads teaching
To babble on.
A thousand butterflies are falling down
in a quiet room.
Dust unfurls the wing-blood once
radiant like a new language.
A thousand cups of nothing
Tower like Babel
Rising to the ceiling. Slowly filling
w/ seething pools of marbleized
bitumen, emerald, silvery blue.
This room - the land
Where the words croon
in a confused language.
My tower bathes in a nose of flame
& welcomes you.
