Some name me mercy; some call me dire.
I keep in the dark of God’s big choir.
Some call me greedy; thief of desire.
Yet, I kindle life where God left fire.

For a moment, all is still,
A hush beneath the weight of will.
A flicker warm begins to rise -
Too bright, perhaps, for borrowed skies.
