I walk around with a happy face.
I go about my day with nothing seeming out of place
But it's when I'm home alone
That everything starts to go wrong
My mind begins to wander
And I yearn for times of past
And it's then when my thoughts betray me just like you did.

A group of loved ones waiting in a hospital room
They all watched anxiously as the doctor walked towards them
His steps seeming to drag slower and slower by the second
As he delivered the news
Each word came out heavier than the next

The boy listened and with shock filled eyes he realized
His mother wasn't coming back
He would never again hear her say I love you

He quickly thought back to all the years he spent away from her
Now just time wasted

Because all the future memories were gone in seconds
While the present ones were shattered by words

So it was there in that small cramped room
Surrounded by watching eyes that he hid the torture in his own

I used to be a day person
Now I favor night

Because at night I can sit in my room alone and let my guard down
But during the day there are to many eyes

Everyone's watching me
Judging my every move

Occasionally someone will ask how I'm doing
And each time I reply I'm fine
Only I'm not

At night there's no chance of seeing you
No chance of having to hide that pain in my chest
No chance of being reminded that you're no longer mine

At night I can cry without being questioned
I can let the pain in without having someone know
But most importantly

At  night I can have dreams of you
And the day we can be together again

I get up and I look around,
But there's no one to be found.
So I sit down and I wonder,
As I listen to the passing thunder.
How could anyone deserve this fate?
Aren't I allowed to make mistakes?
