I sit and watch the creature stir,
Here for 5 hours now (I think) it seems a blur.
Through the Perspex screen I see,
There’s almost nowhere to hide from me.
Every action recorded in time I keep track of the hours of nothing,
I say nothing, like I’m not watching human suffering.
The creature is a man who longs for release,
He wants the peace that comes from sleep.
I watch him as he ties a knot,
In a ripped up piece of cloth, he hopes will be his early release.
So I fulfil my duty to prevent escape,
And save him from his chosen fate.
