The Artist - written by Bonita Awan
Such joy! at last I can express
All my life's tears and happiness
In vibrant shades of every hue
My favourite flowers, my favourite view
The world's my oyster, the colours are here
And once I start painting I lose all my fear
I dip in my brush and gently I paint
Carefully at first to keep the lines faint
Then suddenly I am with boldness struck
And I let my paintbrush run amuck
At last my canvas is no longer bare
I've created a world without a care
And later on when my painting's done
Admiring my work I will sit and stare
I never would have guessed, you know
How much this gift inside would grow
And just how much fun could be in store..
I wish I'd started years before!
I wrote this as a funeral ode for a lady who took up painting in her 60's and found she was very good at it.
