The world is so cold
Freezing over
Out of people’s mouth
Comes the river of ice
Melting now
By streams of lava
That flow
From the hearts of man

I sat in the cold white office
It seemed so much smaller
Than normal
Empty; I sat in dark silence
Waiting

In the car, the drive seemed too quick
I wanted it to never end
In anticipation
Empty; I sat in dark silence
Waiting

I enter the new building
The walls are constricting
I can’t breathe
Empty; I sat in dark silence
Waiting

Finally, the reaper arrives; a smile
The needle pierces its’ target
A whimper
Empty; I cry out
No longer waiting

I lay back
The grass is soft
And the dirt cold- but I felt warm
I hear my dad’s voice
I'll be right there buddy
The worry had gotten old
Lady luck in a heap
A broken dream on the street
No smell in the air
No air at all
Only heat
The thoughts in my head
Why aren’t I dead
I could feel my nose hang
Onto my lip
Blood strewn on my face
Red and blue flashing
All I could see
Was the life that hadn’t been lost
The life that was me
My mom hugs my body
And crushes my head
Her eyes hanging down
Like being pulled on by lead
But God does not frown
He smiles up above
My child you’re not over
Your journey just begun.

I don’t understand why there is so much hate
And I realize I’m saying this all too late
For lives have been lost
Both sides paid the cost
In a war without cause
There will be no win, only loss
Unless we act soon there’s no time to delay
For how many more will be taken this day?
Lives without reason, being taken in the streets
Lives where the last thing they feel is the heat
Of a man dressed in blue, sworn to protect
But this oath has been broken, and he feels no regret
Not all, however, have lost their way
And some are even helping, still to this day.
But this war is not one-sided, can you not see?
What’s the price that you’ll pay for your false liberty?
“Our lives matter” you parade through the city
But you’ll take a life without any pity
Can you not see that all lives are equal?
Not just the lives of you and your people.
This war needs to end or more people will die
With no time to spare to grief or to cry.
Only hate in our hearts
And only hate in our streets
But hate tears apart
Only Love will bring peace.
Love can’t you see will make it all better?
The Love that God shares to us all in His letter
Tells us that all should be treated equal
For all of us, every color, are His people
So no more hate, and no more death
It's time for us all to choose the path that is best
To love like he loved us for he loved us first
For right now it seems like we need it the worst
Love is what we need and when that's what we see
All the death will be over and we’ll join eternity.
