We read a poem Sometimes understanding, sometimes not. If not, we think It must be sick. Something must be wrong with it. So we send it to the doctors office. For a checkup. To be poked And prodded. To make sure everything is right in its head. But our lack of understanding, And ability to broaden our minds Makes us in need Of a doctor. Perhaps a neurologist.

Dedicated to my teacher
Birds and Bees. We listen when the world informs: “To be yourself, you must conform” “Love the bird, but hate the bee” Though they both live in the same tree They don’t seem to hate each other They don’t mind that they’re not brothers. They could choose to fight, but they are aware They both help guard the home they share. Seems like we could learn some stuff The birds and the bees share, and have more than enough They don’t act off a first impression, So they don’t respond to each other with aggression. There is a point to this analogy, This metaphor relates to humanity. So now im wondering, do you see? If only we could be like the bird and the bee.

Birds and Bees
I draw my inspiration From the back of my mind. I don’t pull ideas out of the ground, Like a gardener uprooting weeds, Or a child digging for worms. I don’t look to plants to spark my creativity, Or songbirds to help me think of lyrics of my own. Sitting by the ocean doesn’t make me produce relaxing poems, Or awe inspiring paintings. I just end up sitting for hours with the wind blowing sand in my paint, then going home with a sunburn. I have plenty of ideas flitting around in my head That are waiting to be caught. Using whatever means necessary, Be it butterfly net, fishing pole, or bear trap. Some harder to catch than others. And if every Animal Tree And flower Has a story to tell Then they can go tell it to Snow White. Although she would probably understand, I doubt she would care much either.

The Source
Trees of green Skies of blue What youre looking at I see through Sun of yellow Moon of white Instead of giving We all fight Night of black Clouds of red War and hunger Both widespread Blazing a path that should be lightly tread. Running a race that should be walked instead. Some are behind, some are ahead. He who comes in last is left for dead. The competitors not having any tears to shed. Unless diamonds were what their eyes bled.

Greed Races
There was a ship All set to sail, To a world with clear skies of blue It sounded its horn Said “ All aboard” “Id like to set sail with you” The passenger, scared of the unknown, Preferred to amble on. Never knowing or suspecting that The ship would soon be gone The passenger preferred the ship safe and sound on land She loved to gaze upon the ship as she sat in the warmth of the sand The ship was content to wait He thought he would never leave her behind The ship and the passenger, never suspecting They would both end up changing their minds. But for now, the ship did wait, He waited through the seasons. And once a day, he’d sound his horn Hoping she’d listen to reason. The passenger wandered, and was content, Hearing that horn each day. For she knew that as long as it blew, The ship was deciding to stay. The horn was a song, She cast her bets on. She’d listen for it day in and day out. So when the day came when it didn’t blow- Its silence was louder than a shout. Wondering in her head “What could it mean?” As she ran to the sand to see. “Did the ship set sail, the horn get tired of sounding, And could it be because of me?” When she reached the beach Where the ship was docked, She stared upon empty space The ship had anchored a little ways off And left a rowboat in its place. The ship called out to her “If you want to sail with me, Come out here, I need you near, Face your fears of the violent sea” “I cant wait any more, im leaving now. Make your choice, because its time to go. All you have to do is decide- Hop in the boat, and row.” “If you would like to take a chance, Away from the routine you keep, You could experience the unknown, If your faith would take a leap.” So she thought, and thought some more Until she decided” The ship must not care” “Why else would the ship decide to leave?” And to that, her pain could not compare. So she finally said to the ship “I really want you to stay, Im too scared of the sea to journey with you, And I know you’re determined to sail away” And with that, the two parted. The ship to the sea, the passenger to the woods. And there that little rowboat stayed. Waiting for her, it stood. For weeks, the girl was stubborn. For weeks she was ruled by her fright. Until, at last, the fear was broken, And she rowed the boat into the night. As she rowed she wondered, If the ships offer had expired. But the thought of that nearly broke her heart, And her soul became heavy and tired. So she layed down in the boat, and finally slept, The waves rocked her to sleep with ease. She released control of the oars And let the boat drift wherever it pleased. Floating free, lost at sea Adrift and all alone Dreaming of the adventure she missed, Dreaming of the unknown. The ship had asked her to sail with him, But she denied him cuz she was scared of the distance, A lot of open sea, with hardships and trials She was too scared to give in to his persistence. But- she never told the ship the entire truth That she always dreamed of sailing with him She is sorry it took her so long to decide, But she couldn’t set sail on a whim. Now that shes sure, she faced her fears Let her faith in the ship take a leap Maybe now she can reach the place That for so long she has tried to seek. Because she finally realized, it was the final destination that had her smitten. And as for how this story ends? Well… its still being written.

Dont live by the rules others set for you, dont bend down to embrace conformity. These days everyone is passing judgement, But theres only One who has that authority. When the people you trust start to slander, and you know what they say is a bluff, just remember that He knows you fully, and that should be more than enough. When people around attempt to hurt you, when their words try to do you harm, He is the one to protect you, if you just allow Him to open His arms. If, heaven forbid, you act like a human, and they cast you out for making mistakes, Remember the love of the Creator, and know, unlike us, He never forsakes. So instead of the lies and the slander, we can choose to rise above. If we accept each other for how He made us, and learn to treat others with love. Try to move past human tendencies, dont let their angry ways be too much. Live your life being kind to others, and never lose the care in your touch. When the world thinks they know your story, Without knowing what the truth really is, enough living by everyone's standards, Im going to live by His.
