there are certain things
i will never forget about you
like the stories about your childhood
how you got that scar on your left arm
or the day you first drove a car
i'll remember that saturday night
when you called me
crying
you said your parents were fighting
and that you needed me
there are certain things
that i will never forget
even when you move on
it's engraved
in the back of my brain
and on sticky notes
i will remember
our dreams
and how we hoped that
being together forever
was in our future
i wont forget.

i know i constantly annoy you with my stares and glances
but i want you to know that i do it
because when i'm not looking at you
i'm trying to remember your features
and your smile
so when i'm no longer able to
look back and memorize you
i'll have a picture of you
burned into my head
the way a lighter burns paper
slowly, but permanent
one day, i hope you do the same with me
so when i am no longer here
you can remember the way i smiled
and i can remember the way you smiled back.
