I laugh at life
I'm not sure why
Maybe it's a celebration
I do know that certain events
That seem so serious or infinite
Seem so silly in hindsight
But I laugh in the moment too
Sometimes
With derision
As if the current manifestation
Is a joyful kite
Compared to the monoliths
Weathering in my memory
Maybe I'm just at a loss for words
Because so many conclusions
About the mundane or major
Or minute or marvelous
Are rooted in materialism
So what could I say?
I am fully aware
That none of this can be enjoyed forever
So I laugh
Because I'm just glad
That it happened at all
I suppose the celebration
Isn't always a laugh
But maybe a "wow!" or "really?"
I never understood
The phrase "suspend your disbelief"
But I assume
That it allows you to appreciate a story
And forgive those that are
Out of touch
With reality
But at this rate
Its every single one of us

I am left to wonder about distant days
Before media would avert my eyes
Away from nature and its endless ways
Its tutelage still gifted within the cities lies
But how am I to know this land before deeds
Before the land was owned with water mills by the reeds
I am left to imagine the wilderness through a memory
A path within it paved by clemency
I would espy pigeons and pets related to the human condition
Learning what life is and isn't without permission
It isn't hitting the lottery or a neglected pothole
It is solidarity and solitude melded by the soul
However where would I know how
The wind sounds with many creatures
Through a people attuned to its features
I am left to wonder now

I want to speak to you like a bonfire
To simmer away the cold that sits underneath your skin
To call back the hairs that stand on end
And to sit with you- content
I want to speak to you like a bonfire
To seep into your dark places and glow with your strong temperature
To burn away lifeless bits and be your light fixture
And give a gleam of those strangers that can change into treasure
I want to speak to you like a bonfire
The pop of these embers like the embarrassed embrace flight
This circle of eyes is also for you tonight
So look into this flickering might
And transform your gaze into sight
I want to sing with you like a bonfire
Let all shadows become playful with dancing
Spark a kindness like its fancy
Look into the eyes of another high flier
And share the warmth of a billowing bonfire
