It's been well over a year

And I still think about you often
Every day, if I'm being honest

I know you think about me too

I just want to know that you finally understand
And that things have changed

I always tell myself that if we ever run into each other
We might not even recognize each other

And maybe that's a good thing
New people with new lives

Better than who we used to be

Better.


Tell me that things are better now

That's what I need to hear to find the peace I am looking for

When we look back in 10 years

I hope we smile

I need a sign
From something, anything

That tells me I should send this to you
Or if I should wait

I’m just not sure if life is better without me

I miss you
So much

And I need you
So badly

I’m just keeping it to myself
For now

It feels so empty
I can literally feel the void in my life
It just doesn’t feel right without you

Everything does happen for a reason

Maybe it’s so you can finally let go

And we can finally start over

I don't want you to settle for being "content"

Not now
Not ever

Because a woman as resilient and loving as you deserves a fulfilling happiness far greater than anything your heart has ever experienced before

And that is why

I remember when I first started writing poems for you

I'd spend hours agonizing over finding the "perfect" adjective to express my message to you

But you taught me that writing is about far more than that
You showed me how powerful it is to write with how you feel

And so that's why I'm here
That's why I made this page, all for you
And that's why I want this to be a surprise you'll always smile about

This came so easy to me

Everything I do, and everything I don't do, is to protect you

To protect your happiness

No matter the consequences I may suffer
Even if all the weight falls on my shoulders

I will bear it, happily

If that means a precious smile stays on your face

I just want you to be happy

To be holistically enveloped in the happiness you've always deserved

And I hope it's everything you've always dreamt it would be
