"waxen" poems
Melting, dripping with time passing, Wick still clashing. Ashen, waxen, Flame un-passion. Holding candleholder handles, Snuffing candles, Watch smoke-shadows Dance to who-knows. Out! Out! like the light that it is, But witness yet Grey pirouette's Dark banishment.

Snuffing Candles
Her mind lives in a quiet room, A narrow room, and tall, With pretty lamps to quench the gloom And mottoes on the wall. There all the things are waxen neat And set in decorous lines; And there are posies, round and sweet, And little, straightened vines. Her mind lives tidily, apart From cold and noise and pain, And bolts the door against her heart, Out wailing in the rain.

That statue of a god, with godly state, whose clenching fist and arching back expand to free the thund'rous trident from command, will hold his step and ever warn and wait. That statue of a god dares uncreate that Sculptor of a god, Whose waxen hand, in image of Himself, prepared to stand those ankles, feet, and knees that spell his gait. Gouge out his eyes and skyey senate seat; his absence reassures Us, Men, the stellar blanket warms but nameless moons and stars; that fire that rises from an earthy cellar lends itself and names it solely Ours, so that Our liver is Our own to eat.

For Zeus (Some Say Poseidon)
Retail-hunter gatherers pick clean processed bones, digging graves with their shiny teeth, studious in their reveries as they drone past worlds dumped in the thresher; the trucked-in fields of film-wrapped gore splayed lustily before the managers wound tight in Machiavellian design. A shepherd herds his flock of wreathed iron back to its pen, its skeletal tangle lit in riotous gold by swords flung from lambent eyes of pre-dawn’s shunting chariots Cages shunt and bobble like tugboats chugging stoic up swimming pool lanes of nondescript tile, cheered on by shouting colours to float through archipelagos of paper towel and chocolate blocks past the vegemite diaspora, and the arctic wastelands cased in sliding glass fields of perfect steady storms as wraiths baked in halogen ask silent questions of the silverbeet, while Lana Del Ray’s voice falls like nightshade—slutty and serene—coating shelf stackers in a Piaf sadness as the shelves reach their arms out for more. The check out chick hatches a sense of déjà vu as carrots and biscuits drone towards her mind berEFT of any twitching sense of POSsibility that wised up and flew this leering coop and deep in her catalogue of grey folds something stillborn and waxen is perched on gleaming steel, reeling out her guts like cassette tape with jerky nightmare arms and laughing like a banker watching ***** films, mornings dull cerise an invocation through auto-jaws as she bursts out to warble with magpies in car park’s climbing fire.

Blazing brightly in the night miles below on Crete. Icarus plummeted. And puzzled. The Phoenix shattered ablaze and battred The phoenix Glances to the night sky. As a bird of prey whizzes by. Struck to ground. Thundering sound. Phoenix pauses beats his wings. Flaming feathers burn and drift. Rises slowly from the ashes. Icarus crumbles in broken waxen wings. Youthful tragedy. Never to rise. No reclamation. Silent hubris. The dirge preceeds. Then quietly Receeds.

Icarus falling--Phoenix rising
You know what the stories say About me. They call me silly, Foolish, disobedient. They say I should have listened to my Father. Now he was a guy Worth listening to: the one Who built the labyrinth -- the one That caged the bull-headed beast And sent virgins, hopelessly Lost, to their deaths. He made me a pair of wings And when he was finished told me to contemplate my mortality. And not to fly too close To the sun. For the feathers Were joined only by wax and days But the sun was made of molten fire and eternity. How could I listen though? When after so long Penned in the cool, dim labyrinthine Depths of his workshop, I was finally Free. A soft warm shaft of sunlight pierced me through and I was lost. On my ****** flight, I was ecstatically lost, rising madly to the shivering brink of infinity. Imagine me with my great white waxen feathered wings circling (Circling) (Circling) spiraling Higher and higher to a crisis. Oh I melted. Then I fell. I do wish they'd asked me how I'd have Liked to be remembered though: Not the merely foolish bull-headed kid who refused to obey, But the dreamer with wild eyes, The one who once flew too close to the Sun And briefly, (All too briefly) Blazed.

Icarus
Dreary meadows... empty halls... I soak myself in candle light... I wash away my form of wax.. In your tears i find comfort... Bathing in your mind.. makes me relax... Ravenously devouring your memories.... I am the creeping dark around the corner... A future distorted, a past discorded... your present state in turmoil.... Tumbling further into depravity... A shadowy fragment of what once was you... Dripping, gaping maws. Elongated fangs laid bare... Rend sinew and tissue.... Gnawing violently your rotting tongue.... Venom seeps out of every orifice... As you transpire myself from you and dress your misery in flesh and blood... While your sight evaporates... I roll my eyes out of sheer boredom Your frail waxen form.. melting in the heat of my hands... Dripping in dead puddles of discomfort... Your sorrow festers like mould on corpses.... And on that faithful day you gave birth to me... You gave me my name..... When you look in the mirror you will always see... You will whisper my name... Melancholy..

Melancholy
Golden shawls envelope flushing, blending fabrics which billow  under the waxen blackbird's silky braided feathers. Heaven's vault, a celestial sphere of blue yonder, a swirling palette of oils suffusing and dancing, wrapping their ringlets into one thousand spirals which signet shadows onto the  slender impressions in the sog. Illuminous, voluminous salmon bleaches blushing black tissue to pale primrose promising the cobalt then marrying to aquamarine. Stained glass fingers barely protruding from aurelian pews.

A mood for sunsets
I dreamed and did not seek: to-day I seek Who can no longer dream; But now am all behindhand, waxen weak, And dazed amid so many things that gleam Yet are not what they seem. I dreamed and did not work: to-day I work Kept wide awake by care And loss, and perils dimly guessed to lurk; I work and reap not, while my life goes bare And void in wintry air. I hope indeed; but hope itself is fear Viewed on the sunny side; I hope, and disregard the world that's here, The prizes drawn, the sweet things that betide; I hope, and I abide.

Yet A Little While
O bella bionda, Sei come l'onda! Of cool sweet dew and radiance mild The moon a web of silence weaves In the still garden where a child Gathers the simple salad leaves. A moondew stars her hanging hair And moonlight kisses her young brow And, gathering, she sings an air: Fair as the wave is, fair, art thou! Be mine, I pray, a waxen ear To shield me from her childish croon And mine a shielded heart for her Who gathers simples of the moon.

*They say that
 Van Gogh ate yellow paint
To put the happiness inside him.
 But she, instead, would
Cut out the sadness from her skin
And let the hatred pour out
 In gushing streams of red,
 Her screams echoing
The injustice of colour. Her wheat skin looked prettier, she thought,
With the raked furrows of half healed scars
And painful slurs Etched into the deep ochre of her soul. She quietly detested her terracotta skin,
Smooth like a polished stone
Picked up from the Ganges.
But here in the pale waters of the Thames
She was a blot of burnt sienna on an otherwise ivory white riverbank. And every new cut
 Would heal bloodless and waxen,
Which made her vow to herself to cut off her skin completely,
 Leaving nothing but
The darkened red of her fury
And a frightened echo of a scream
In a room filled with bitter laughs and slurs,
In a room filled with the muffled cries of the oppressed and unheard.*

The snowflake is castellated cold, Of chill crenellations and turnings narrow. Court of pie-powders and gray-skied brazier smoke, Of inner mazework dimmed to ****** holes, Or the hooded machicolations from tower spire Of oily darkness and arrowslits of Greek fire. — The snowflake is Medieval reliquary, The frozen skull of rain and blood clear of sin, Wind-captive with its prayer of quiet On quietest lips, close to wine and sacrament. Or the chapel and its waxen paramours Of incorrupt body and candlelight upon the moors. — The snowflake is the mighty frozen spark, Fire-forged and ironwrought, Under the eye of Hephaestus, Blacksmith of sorrow’s wind.

Would you sing to me? Your voice calms me like the sound of cicadas in distant summer/I listened to the album you made me over and over, the way your voice glides into the notes, weaves itself into my bones/Your hair looks so beautiful in sunlight, soft sandstone red/ I love to see you smile, your secrets behind your teeth/Get dressed up and let me show you off, wear the dress that gives you Venus de Milo shoulders/I just can’t take my eyes off you, a rare star, unbridled constellations of your eyes/ let me draw you, capture your life in this small moment, paper and pensiveness/I just want to hold you, feel the needed press of our bodies/I need you right now, you are not my breath but I breathe easier when you are here/I’ll come over to your place tonight, I know you must be tired, I see the way the world wears us, slow drips of waxen time against our skin/I found this flower in the yard, it reminded me of you, the petals delicate in their sweetness, the strength in the roots/I love your family, their warmth a hearth fire, always returned to/Would you make some art for me? I see the way you pull beauty from the wound in your side/Read me some of your poetry, what does your soul sound like?/I wrote this poem for you, you are written on my soul/I wrote a song for you, words were not enough, here is the sound of us/would you play music with me? Let the harmonies carry outside our bodies/I carry your heart with me, I carry it with me.

The night was like a jagged edge, When the traveller arrived, Shadows cutting into corners, Where the light, was trying to hide. Thunder reverberating like sheet metal, Lightening quivering to the ground, Spelling out prayers in the blackness. Whilst the waves on the shore did pound. The moon in communion with the night, Telling stories to the seas, As anxiety disturbing the oceans sleep, Tossing and turning in turbulent breeze. He entered the cave in silence, Laid his prize onto the ground, A waxen figure of immortality, That could not make a sound. He watched the waters foam, Along the secret line of the spine, Wishing he could prolong the bliss, Before the sea proclaimed, it’s mine. With human anguish the sea did roar, And took the prize to it’s breast The traveller exited his work now done, Only unlike him, the sea would not rest.

The Traveller
1. New Year met me somewhat sad: Old Year leaves me tired, Stripped of favorite things I had, Balked of much desired: Yet farther on my road to-day, God willing, farther on my way. New Year coming on apace What have you to give me? Bring you scathe, or bring you grace, Face me with an honest face; You shall not deceive me: Be it good or ill, be it what you will, It needs shall help me on my road, My rugged way to heaven, please God. 2. Watch with me, men, women, and children dear, You whom I love, for whom I hope and fear, Watch with me this last vigil of the year. Some hug their business, some their pleasure-scheme; Some seize the vacant hour to sleep or dream; Heart locked in heart some kneel and watch apart. Watch with me, blessed spirits, who delight All through the holy night to walk in white, Or take your ease after the long-drawn fight. I know not if they watch with me: I know They count this eve of resurrection slow, And cry, "How long?" with urgent utterance strong. Watch with me, Jesus, in my loneliness: Though others say me nay, yet say Thou yes; Though others pass me by, stop Thou to bless. Yea, Thou dost stop with me this vigil night; To-night of pain, to-morrow of delight: I, Love, am Thine; Thou, Lord, my God, art mine. 3. Passing away, saith the World, passing away: Chances, beauty and youth sapped day by day: Thy life never continueth in one stay. Is the eye waxen dim, is the dark hair changing to gray That hath won neither laurel nor bay? I shall clothe myself in Spring and bud in May: Thou, root-stricken, shalt not rebuild thy decay On my ***** for aye. Then I answered: Yea. Passing away, saith my Soul, passing away: With its burden of fear and hope, of labor and play; Hearken what the past doth witness and say: Rust in thy gold, a moth is in thine array, A canker is in thy bud, thy leaf must decay. At midnight, at cock-crow, at morning, one certain day Lo, the Bridegroom shall come and shall not delay: Watch thou and pray. Then I answered: Yea. Passing away, saith my God, passing away: Winter passeth after the long delay: New grapes on the vine, new figs on the tender spray, Turtle calleth turtle in Heaven's May. Though I tarry, wait for Me, trust Me, watch and pray. Arise, come away, night is past, and lo it is day, My love, My sister, My spouse, thou shalt hear Me say. Then I answered: Yea.

Buttercups Diversify!
She is the book falling open to November, sweet hidden wickedness of rhododendron, her mouth a tuberose, pale. ******* She swells upon the eaves. They touch at her thighs to feel the texture of acrylics, something frail, transitory, beautiful. She walks the beach in August, sudden music out of nowhere, houseflies and hypodermics, the shadows that rustle behind shower curtains. Her need to be compelling is painful, something purple and waxen, a delicate blush. Still, she writes the way her body should look, provocative, breathless, stirring agony in its wake.

The Waxing Moon
he found the goddess like so many do in a desperate fall through foundation, clutching to the bleak rim, praying for context. his last moment of wholeness was spent with an upturned face basking in the backlit rays of her promise         *time passes          in a rushed imitation of          magic tricks and carnival rides* when candlelight flew from velvetine fingers he hid from her shadow humbled and yoked the neon grin of morning found him clutching her breath       tucked inside the hollows           sunken through every step           there was nothing left           of his body but two glass eyes caught forever staring into her waxen smile that never thought to melt that only broke with smoke       *tell your children:       hope is a scar       the fault, mistake       obsession with beauty       will roll you in ash       (a ghost of his telling)        and empty you’ll wake*

You are a brass framed feather bed in the middle of a dilapidated forest white waxen cadaverous arms and metacarpals outstretched screeching praise to Father Fumigated Sky a tie dyed atmosphere embodying the ambiance of some apocalyptic rose garden bled gold, wine, & liquid ecstasy and leaked through chemical clouds or the coagulated tears of God... my strange, creaky comfort. may we watch it all crash down in peace.

Passing away, Saith the World
ON thrones from China to Peru All sorts of kings have sat That men and women of all sorts proclaimed both good and great; And what's the odds if such as these For reason of the State Should keep their lovers waiting, Keep their lovers waiting? Some boast of beggar-kings and kings Of rascals black and white That rule because a strong right arm Puts all men in a fright, And drunk or sober live at ease Where none gainsay their right, And keep their lovers waiting, Keep their lovers waiting. The Muse is mute when public men Applaud a modern throne: Those cheers that can be bought or sold, That office fools have run, That waxen seal, that signature. For things like these what decent man Would keep his lover waiting, Keep his lover waiting?

A Model For The Laureate
Nestled in a pencil case And snuggled up in fluff There snoozed a tiny pirate man Of legendary stuff He'd spied the hidden secrets And trod the haunted shore Blu-tack Beard the buccaneer Scourge of the open floor He stole a shoe-box galleon And sailed the carpet blue With pencil mast and paper sails And crayons as his crew They forayed on the crooked tiles And crested every ridge Blu-tack Beard the scallywag The raider of the fridge When moored up in the kitchen With all his crew around The captain showed to one and all A treasure map he'd found It bore a chart of distant parts And quite a course it plot It pointed to the bathroom lands And tip-ex marked the spot They crammed the hold with cornflakes To feed them on their trip They pulled hard on the piece of string And weighed the paperclip The crew they dragged their boat aloft On neatly woven hairs Blu-tack Beard the privateer Surmounter of the stairs They heaved their vessel restlessly Atop the final brow The crayon pirates caught their breath And leaned against her bow Then scaled tiny ladders And each took to their post Blu-tack Beard was at the helm And watched the foreign coast Through countless minutes voyaging There loomed the bathroom door They slacked the sail and went below And each took to an oar They pulled a mighty rhythm Till their waxy arms were numb And Blu-tack Beard the plunderer Was beater of the drum But though they pried in every nook And each last inch of grout They skirted round the skirting board They tapped each silver spout Illusive was their bounty And they grew ever the crueller They took their skipper angrily And made him walk the ruler He landed glum and ruefully Amid the ***** socks He heard the merry spiteful sound Of laughing, taunting mocks And saw the sight of mutiny With waxen little smiles Blu-tack Beard the cast-away Alone among the tiles He commandeered a washing cloth And weaved himself a rope He scaled the dreaded washstand And stole a bar of soap He carved himself a coracle And set his sights on home Blu-tack Beard the wanderer Awash amid the foam He slithered down the stairwell And landed with a plan For warmer climes and restfulness A cocktail and a tan And so he met his final port Right then did he retire Blu-tack Beard the pensioner Of the warm spot near the fire
