"straps" poems
I slip the straps and release the clasp of your over-the-shoulder boulder holder. Gravity asserts itself, and you sigh as I wonder if I should get even bolder because The jaws of love masquerade as petals of a flower so Just say if you want me to stop. We are, after all, in the middle of a shop. I was attracted when I saw you smile. As we passed in the frozen food aisle. Now people are staring though the window. Shocked at my nonchalant innuendo. And if your purse metaphor extends to this. We can go to the Bank for a little kiss though I may not be able to afford nine feather mattresses and a golden pea. Even Poets ***** Up ... Love At First Sight
*With one old roller skate I'd be out to play The local boys Would stay all day Remove the straps You’re left with a chassis Then an old Beano book It looked real classy Now to the longest bank Only one car a day Place the book on top We’re on our way Sitting low legs outstretched Leaning back the race begins Round the corner leaning to the side Riding our skateboards with pride No designer logo Or high speed wheels To come to a stop We used our heels Those summer days we were young Happy children having fun It cost not a penny to improvise One old skate with a book the right size It's quite sad to see All the waste today Expensive toys Just thrown away*

Skateboard

Saturated in steely blue clutches, sweating from the 75 degree Georgia night strung up and washed out with a serpent woman that keeps bringing on the blight Singing you a song of bliss and blinders. A big brick red boot on your neck and a green collar that reads The Gardens ***** The Garden takes the taxes tightens up the lead and never relaxes Hit ya where ya like, the pain is disguised, leather tastes like candy, The Gardens got ya hypnotized. Your late night camping sight attracts the moon light parasite, that acolyte of appetite, Tonight your the Gardens Delight You wanna run but she's got those hooks between your shoulder blades feeling like an inexorable **** of silk, smoke and skin. She gives you every thing you need, Fountain heads of intemperance and black out nights Whole streets smelling like grease and charcoal charbroils Men and women of dexterous lechery, feverous severance, and generous deference Crystals for your cranium, high altitude dives and the lowest lows. A cacophony of any entertainment you might want or need, just as long as its seedy. The Garden keeps blinders on your head to make sure you can't see anything she doesn't want you to. Try to remove em and the punishment is usually severe. She might give you the greatest loves you've ever known and turn em to photographs, blot em with LSD and trip you out on memories. And when you come back to what you think reality is she'll take those photographs and burn em up right in your face and leave you asking if any of it really happened while feeling like it was the realest thing that ever has. She'll break you and build you up, build you up and break you worse. A cycle of bad things feeling real good. The Garden will do everything in her power to keep you right here. But if you can get all those straps and tight leather off, all those hooks and chains.. If you can escape her steely blue clutches,, You'll finally see how wrong you've been done, and your still gonna want her back in some strange way.. but you might start to heal.... But know this. No matter where you might run off to, You'll still be hearing The Garden City call. That siren song of bliss and blinders.

He finishes his new achievement Smiling happily at his new jumble of handiwork Glued together precisely The vision isn’t clear, yet it will come together soon. He attaches the different shapes to himself Straps glued to the cardboard It seems he’s wearing armor With doorknobs and wood grain painted on it with pure artistry He hears someone come in the front door His smile turns to panic He quickly cleans up the supplies Throwing things around the room anywhere they fit He runs to the corner of his room He quickly pulls the “armor” close to him As he sits in the fetal position His armor becomes a small dresser that looks as if it was made for clothes The father bursts into the room With rage spelled out on his forehead The boy hides brilliantly afraid of the wrath to come The father looks around the room carefully *Come out Come out Wherever you are The next time I see you I’ll give you more bruises than last week altogether* He closes the door with a loud slam The boy unfolds his creation, a simple dresser Who knew that a young boy’s imagination Would protect him from all of the horror and pain usually unleashed on him

I dropped by my favorite place today, released another exhausted breath. My pants were bulging out and the fat kept me stretched out. I hate that feeling. My stomach turned into billowy waves of expectant marks, pinning through my outer skin. I hate that feeling. When I sit, my thigh provokes every nerve in my body. If she has thoughts, she'll be a demon whispering through the wind. My unkempt hair is spinning around like gravity does not exist. Somehow, I failed to sigh out the black smoke forming all over my body. My skin, when pinched, is like soft straps that cannot be withdrawn from their owner. My skin is like the skin of my ancestor—it keeps stretching widely, tirelessly, and unprovoked. My heart is tightening its grasp on me. God, please help me! My eyes! I swallowed all my tears away, but my reflection still reflects the dark hue of the moon. When it is sad, the moon exposes his true nature, just like rolled down skins on my neck. My hands go from gently holding my heart out of my chest to weighing the weight of my body. If I let out my thick heart, my body would be lighter and my skin would be a plethora of scars and clay. If I abandon thee and such a calloused body, art will find me beautiful, and that is one of the moon's other sides. It's thick and uncooked. The heavens may not forsake an insecure moon, but a woman hates her reflection when the moonlight lights on her flesh. "Mirror, mirror on the wall..." I called and they did not answer. I froze in my seat and waited until the sun bloomed and dried my tears. Yet I still could not breathe. I went into the sea and swam with the lonely whales. The sun reflected on the waters. I reached letter fourteen, but it was written by someone else. The ambience of the calm ocean washed over me. I released a breathy sigh, and the light went to take me.

Letter Thirteen from Gaia's Journal
I dropped by my favorite place today, released another exhausted breath. My pants were bulging out and the fat kept me stretched out. I hate that feeling. We're on a train in London's subways and everyone stands with a dead-eye peer down the carriage, so please, hold my hand. They're all like apes, hung on bamboo poles and strung vine-straps, hunkered over the small space I have to myself, so please, hold my hand. I think you've become just like them, Daddy; a ringed-eyed orangutan or narrow-staring lemur. You've become much less human it scares me, so please, let go of my hand.

Dear Rilke, I must
Free concerts are full of potheads, they get all in your ear and start talking about the land of milk and honey, DENVER ******* COLORADO. The beers cost 15 bucks for pisswater and barely a pint. The girls all wear pink spaghetti straps sagging acid-wash jeans, and a smell like old milk. The old people dance. the old people dance; there wrinkly pterodactyl arms flapping as they swirl the air with bad knuckles. The air smells, like sweat. Sweat smells like toilet water. Free concerts are usually outside, so hope to ******* Gaia that it doesn't rain, because you're stuck there, drunk and yelling dancing and laughing ******* and falling. Matt, Dang and Me. We spent our summer going to free concerts, because the girls that go to free concerts think tattoos and ************* and toilet humor is more **** than money. The old people dance with you performing some type of necromancy in the air that brings dead things inside of you back to life. And the bud, it's so ******* sticky, and it causes a hacking paroxysm of coughing to the point that you can taste the blood in your mouth, because those people from DENVER ******* COLORADO, really know their ****

I have accepted it
Did you know that if you leave your car in your driveway, With the keys in the ignition, And someone sits down in the front seat like they own it, and drives away, You are the one who is liable for theft? They can drive that sucker to the coast. They can burn the upholstery with their cigarettes. They can bring their friends into the back seat, and fill the compartments with their refuse, and **** and they can leave it ruined in front of your house, or crushed into the median on the highway, or left in disconnected pieces under an overpass. It will be called, “unauthorized use of a vehicle.” It will be called a “misdemeanor.” But you left the car running. Weren't you kind of asking for it to happen? They said, This, (Gesturing to the skirt which fell to two inches above my kneecap), Is like that. If I walk outside of my house in jeans and a t-shirt, or a long dress with thin straps, Or with my chin tilted out, Or with long eyelashes, Or with full lips, Or with my hips swaying when I walk, It's like I left the car running. It's like I invited them to force their bodies into the front seat. In their minds, or with their hands, or with their lips to anyone who would listen to them. Little girls in leotards become like unlocked car doors; Where men can burn their cigarettes into their skin, Or stick their fingers in In plain view of their parents, And told to let it happen, Quietly. It isn't theft, It's “a medical examination.” What did they expect? It isn't a theft. She was just as guilty of negligence. It isn't really a felony. It's not THAT BAD. (Stop being so dramatic.) It's the unauthorized use of your body, for a time, or one night, or every time you close your eyes for the rest of your life, Sure- But you left the car running.

Pills, pills for the mentally ill The more you take, the worse you'll feel So down the hatch Yep down your throat Very soon you'll be wearing this coat A hug me jacket tarnished in white With buckles and straps wound so tight But for now some side effects I wrote Down here on this pretty little note Increased thoughts of suicide And harsh voices to which you can't hide Nausea, drooling, and anxiety too And whoever seems to be "after you" We'll put you to sleep You won't make another peep Strap you to a cozy bed where you'll slumber Pump you till you're as cool as a cucumber To which we'll add you to our lovely garden No ifs, buts, or beg your pardons What's the matter? You seem unwell You're as mad as a hatter This I can tell So don't start a spell Don't start a clatter We'll pick up those pieces to which your mind has shattered Just take this pill In fact why not stay You're better off here anyway!

Pills!
I laughed in places Where Laughter was not asked for, In granite market towns Beneath refugee palm trees shivering. Running from giant hands That were covered in car wash fluids, The back of children's heads imprinted On their palms. I laughed during disciplinary procedures, Before authority figures With cornflakes in their red beards And my laughter crept over the edges of their flowerbeds And the grass laughed with me. I laughed at funerals, The sounds of horses beyond the churchyard And a messenger ran down the aisle panting and exhausted, He had a message for my laughter ' Quick you must come at once'. I laughed during marital feuds, Laughter rising out of its own body above broken guitars and dried up bonsai, Above all the things I said That contradict me now. I laughed during serious films, The tulips drooping on top of the T.V. The sun slumped against the door, Behind heavy curtains I mistook for pigs on hooks. I laughed over exercise books, Above algebra and history Behind impossible bra straps That appeared out of acne and ink flicked backs. I laughed at the swimming pool Hiding birthmarks like stains, Drowning above the water saying 'I am a fish I must get back in!'. I laughed in surgeries among migraines and told my mother that robots were taking over, in the same rooms where they removed my brothers' verucas And I saw the doctors small blade escape through the window. I laughed during friends confessions, In between the silences of repeated songs While pantomime dames walked past windows make-up running in black and yellow rain. I'm laughing while making coffee in a campervan, I'm laughing because its a monday morning, Because everyone else is busy, Because we have an oil lamp from a pound-shop Burning beneath the sound of rain on the roof, Because the radio's silent….. And because sausages are best done slowly.

We were adults with childish personalities in how I wore my Docs like a religion for feet, my sibling in high heels that you could hear in Sunday morning claps. The arguments broke out: she wanted a child, mother saying was too young, needed to free herself from lazy culture and find a workplace. I'd never seen both their faces so gushed red, just like the red richness of those wellies I had worn in the park. I pipe up and say, “The best freedom is our time as children.”

Childhood Sestina

The Truth About Bra Straps
I was sent to work at the old Repat. It was forty years since the war, Those ancient diggers would sit and swear At the pain of the limbs they wore, The wounds would open as years went by, They’d come for another slice, That war was never over for them, And morphine was paradise. I saw one veteran struggle and curse As he ripped at the buckles and straps, The new prosthesis had rubbed him raw As his knee began to relapse. He tore the leg from his wounded stump Sat on his bed, and roared, Then swung the article over his head And flung it across the ward. The others had ducked as the leg took off And bounced off the opposite wall, ‘I’ll have to report you,’ the nurse exclaimed, ‘It’s a good leg, after all!’ ‘You wear it then,’ was the man’s response, ‘For it’s driving me insane, What would you know of Flanders Fields? You wouldn’t deal with the pain!’ My job was to settle and calm him down So I asked him about his leg, ‘When and where did you lose it, Dig?’ The veteran tossed his head. ‘You’ve heard of a place called Flanders Fields Where the bullets came in like hail? Well, I was there with the Anzac’s, son, At a place called Passchendaele.’ ‘Our Generals were trying to ****** us, I swear, on my mother’s head, They kept on sending us over the top Until half of the men were dead. The German gunners would enfilade As we struggled against the mud, I’ll never forget the battlefield, It was spattered with bones and blood. They’d send artillery shells across At the height of a soldier’s knee, We’d watch them come as they parted the grass, They were Grasscutters, you see! Well, I was running with bayonet fixed And praying for God’s good grace, When suddenly I was lying there, I’d tumbled, flat on my face.’ ‘It’s strange that I never felt a thing, When the Grasscutter got me, It took a while ‘til I saw my leg Was gone, from under the knee. But that was the end of the war for me, The end of the life I’d known, I spent some time back in Blighty, then I came on a ship, back home.’ I never chided those men in there Though they’d curse and swear, and roar, For every man was a hero where They'd trudged in mud through the war.
